Wow! I was hungry and getting a little towards the “hangry” end of the spectrum, traveling along I-81 from Roanoke to Knoxville, looking for the closest Cracker Barrel, which was 54 minutes. I said I didn’t really want to the wait. My brilliant and thoughtful husband made the executive decision to stop at the Fort Chiswell Denny’s in the Flying J travel center and truck stop. Keep in mind-I had only eaten once at a Denny’s in California in the late 1980’s. I am not even certain that is the correct name. I had no pre-conceived notions. First of all, we were immediately greeted and seated. Our server, Emily, got our drink order (unsweetened tea, which is not nearly as popular as sweet tea) right away and understood my order of Cream Cheese filled French toast, Turkey bacon, and 2 eggs over easy, which is not a standard selection on the menu. That said, the menu explains that you can choose whatever you want from the selections to “build your own slam.” I believe a slam is just more than one item that could also be ordered a la carte. Maybe it is just a catchy term to remember Denny’s by. I went to the Flying J restroom and that was such an unexpectedly lovely experience that I also wrote a separate review about this Flying J travel center. Incidentally, there was ANOTHER Flying J with Denny’s at the next exit on I 81, which is also I 77, which is very confusing looking at the Google Map. My husband ordered the country fried steak with corn and mashed potatoes. Garlic bread was included. He took one bite and said that it was BETTER than Cracker Barrel. Even the garlic bread that he didn’t know he was getting was top notch. My cream cheese stuffed brioche French toast with strawberries was SO delicious that I felt like I was getting away with eating dessert first. I also ate some of the turkey bacon and a little bit of the eggs, but I had so much left that I got a box!

Wow…. Been driving a truck for a good while, parking at Flying J’s just to come to Denny’s and get somewhat healthy SENIOR MEAL of Salmon, broccoli and wild rice and noticed the change In the menu……. They No longer have ANY senior meals at all!!!! That’s utterly ridiculous!!!!! We all need a little help out here. Come To a SIT down chain restaurant. hope to get some consistency, and relax after an 11 hour day driving 80,000 pounds of commodities all over the country, just to have something so simple as a couple of bucks off a meal, burst bubble for the day. I ordered the same meal anyway, I have to pass my DOT PHYSICAL to be able to retain my CDL license. I try to do everything possible to do that. Something as simple as eating, healthy fish once or twice a week helps. But the root of all evil, is money, and the executives at Denny’s and the franchises choose to make us NOT want to come back because they need MORE MONEY….. And yes, I understand the struggles all over the country. It just goes to show, that sometimes no matter what you do. You’re good isn’t good enough.

I've dined two nights in a row and sat back and observed Dine in ordered t-bone with srambled eggs and hash browns. I asked for two additional eggs to be added. I think it was an over kill on pricing. Charged 3x for cheese. I gave the server 10 dollar tip. The cook 20.00 tip. This cook has been there for over 10 years. Doing a solo. This place has a steady flow of customers coming in and she maintains it all. Denny's, as a foremore manager in the industry I hope your going to take care of this woman. I travel a lot and if my travels bring me back this way. I PROMISE you I will have district managers come in and eat at the counter and slip her cards because it will be well worth their interest.

I  typically drive past the Denny's nearest to me & go out of my way for better service & just generally nicer staff. I probably won't be doing that again.  If you call the order by phone number provided on the website Or Google maps, You will be speaking with someone whose 1st language is not English. I'm convinced they  Don't even have a second language. I seriously doubt that the person on the other end Has ever set foot in the United States. So, I've been ordering online When I want Denny's. Today I placed an order for for strawberry crapes and a fit slam online.  When I picked up my order I was given only the crapes.  The girl behind the counter informed me that they did not receive an order for anything other than crapes. I had left my phone in the car charging because it literally shut down the minute I arrived to pick up my order. I had prepaid, As I always do, so was concerned that I had paid for something I did not receive. I was polite and the girl behind the counter was indifferent but friendly. She said perhaps it was being prepared & she would get someone else. When I saw the 2 of them approaching me It was very clear that the person she had gone to ask for help Was planning to take me down & put me in my place. We really shouldn't bother these people while they're working. They are busy & have lots to do. She was MARCHING, her face fixed & FIRE 🔥 🔥 in her eyes.😱  I have no idea why... I  had been polite & wanted the rest of my order I had paid for online. So when this little millennial aged drill sergeant wearing glasses with her long, dark hair in a ponytail (with fire inhereyes) approached, before I could state my case, was telling me that they did not get my order online. And that's fine... It's no big deal. I am easy to get along with and will bend over backwards To accommodate  Nearly anyone.I explained that my phone battery was depleted &  I had left it charging in the car & I couldn't verify or check myself, admitting It probably was my mistake, szhe grabbed the receipt stapled to the bag and spoke to me like I was 4 years old & she'd had enough, saying "'THIS  is your order. You didn't order ANYTHING else".Again, I explained I had ordered online and had paid online. She did not offer  For me to wait while she double checked, Nor did she offer to allow me to wait for the meal that I had ordered, or thought I had ordered &  intended to take home and eat. She just glared at me. I have called the restaurant multiple times tonight & asked to speak with a manager. 2 different people have answered & both have hung up on me. So here is what I know My receipt says: Pick up time 7:23 pick up date March 29th 2022. Denny's at Fort Chiswell. Order number 1536933 server 016-a Google 13249911917535. Berry vanilla crape Total $8.56 I would provide names but I don't know them & the 'Order verified by_______ is unsigned & there are no names on my receipt, hence the description. AND although it goes against everything inside me I typically do add a tip for pick up. I sincerely hope the right person reads this review & understands how this interaction made me feel. I write reviews for only 2 reasons, If the service, sales person, shop, et cetera, are exceptional and when it's not even close. Sad to say, this experience is the latter.  I don't want a refund, I seriously doubt I have paid for the item I didn't receive. And I have not checked on that Just yet. But that's not my problem. We all make mistakes. I don't want a free meal or coupons or anything like that  I want to be treated with respect just exactly the way I treat others and always have.  And I want this young lady To realize That there's something called  Integrity & professionalism & gratitude  along with something called pride in a job...

After placing an online order, we picked our food up and got back to the hotel just to realize that we were charged for food we had not received. The food we did receive was ice cold, as if it sat for hours. When I called to figure out if we could come back to get our missing items, I was told that they did not have the items we were missing, and then without warning we were placed on “hold” which was actually just them setting the phone down so we could hear all background conversations- to which we sat on “hold” for 37 minutes before hanging up and calling back. Because the phone was left off the hook, the call wouldn’t go through. I called an additional 11 times, before just showing back up. I was told, when they finally answered, that the woman who had originally answered the phone call, got “caught up helping up front”…. while already actively dealing with a phone call issue?… I was then asked to give them more time, to which I stated I couldn’t wait any longer as I was charged for things I did not receive. Ultimately, my husband drove back and spoke to someone in person about our issues. Once there, he informed the manager how we were charged for something we did not get, and we were told that they did not have the missing items so we would either like a refund or to have something in place of what was missing…. To which the manager informed him that the items were indeed in stock, as one of them were just served to a table for dine-in. They quickly got the items to us, and that was the end of it. After everything, my husband returned just to find that his burger was made wrong. Instead of dealing with the poor service again, he ate it anyways because at that point it had been over an hour since we got our food. Absolutely horrible, will not return to this location. Any other time I’m sure it would be fine, but when they are busy they neglect customers and fail to fix things within a timely manner. This experience has completely ruined this location for us. Very unfortunate because I am gluten free and enjoy the options I am presented with while at Dennys. We will have to travel out of the way to go elsewhere from here on out, and I advise you do the same if they even do much as hint...
