I started going to this restaurant when it was still McLean's restaurant. My family and I have been going there for about 45 years. Now it's Cafe 33. The food is good just like McLean's, but a different menu. The service is good. But I am very angered and very upset at what I have discovered! ever since it became Cafe 33 I noticed that what we ordered was about five to seven dollars more than what it seem like it should be. But because they don't write the prices down on the check you can't check their math. So you just have to assume that the person at the cash register is ringing you up correctly. The last two tim I've noticed that it seemed a little inflated. This time I decided to track the cost and total it up. I got to the cashier I told her how much I wanted charged on my credit card which included a 20% tip. But somehow or another it came out to be $4.50 more than what I had originally calculate it. I went outside and I thought about it and then I came back in. I added the two coffees the two breakfast that we got and it should have been $21 and some change with a $4 tip that would have been $25 and some change. My ticket ended up being $29 $4 over the cost of what it should have been. I caught them red-handed! I brought it to the manager's attention I explained how angry I was and how betrayed I felt after all these years. Feeling like that these new people are ripping me off. We live on a very fixed income. The manager was kind enough to give me our breakfast for free. but that really doesn't excuse the fact that the last three times we've gone, I know that the price was inflated. The reason given to me was that they use the wrong code in the cash register. But that would have only made our ticket off by $1 the math just didn't add up nor the explanations! So all I can say is diner beware! Be sure you total up your meal before they take the menu away or double check them at the cash register because these people don't seem like they're on the up-and-up. Once is a mistake twice it is a problem but three times is credit...
Read moreWhat a delightful little find. I had driven by this place for a long time thinking it to be a dive. Finally, driving by early in the morning and with a hankering for breakfast, I stopped in. The place is small, but immaculate with a strikingly tasteful decor. Not fancy, but radiating warmth and coziness. The waitress was superlative. She had a fair number of customers considering the size of the place, but she was attentive, friendly and fun, the kind of person that makes you feel good to be around. She kept a watchful eye on my coffee to make sure it was always full, and I was particularly impressed when she ran to the rescue to adjust the blinds when she observed a patron squinting in the sun. (In short, she was vigilant in taking care of her customers). The menu was far broader than I would have ever imagined. Among the usual choices of eggs, bacon and hash browns were herring, salmon cakes, frittatas, black bean cakes, meatloaf, a variety of omelets and many other entrees. The lunch menu was likewise both local and varied. My meal - scrapple, eggs, hash browns, a biscuit and coffee - was great in taste, ample in portion and easy on the wallet. This is a great place for comfort food, and I look forward to...
Read moreI really like this place and historically we have had good service but today was pretty bad. It started when we were being sat. The lady seating us had told two gentleman they could follow her and they said those women (me and my friend) were first. And she said oh no. I didnt see them I saw you guys. And they its okay go ahead and seat them. And she said their entire party wasnt here so you guys should sit first. We said "its fine" to the guys "you can have the table" and she was clearly annoyed by this so she took the guys to another table and waited on them first and left us waiting. Eventually she came over to take our order but twice, in the middle if my friend giving her the order, she walked away from the table to handle something at another table. It was unbelievably rude. Another server altogether came over and took our order. I have waited tables and I know things can get busy but the fact that she just walked away from our table while my friend was giving her her order - I was shocked. Once we got our food she asked us if we wanted syrup, we did and never brought it and never refilled our drinks. And never asked how...
