Hawk's Fish & BBQ — Restaurant in Virginia

When I went to pull the handle on the front door, my first thoughts were someone really need to clean this. Its just a bad way to start off. The insides are just really in disarray. Lighting and fans had grease and dust on them. Cobwebs just being blown by the dusty dirty fan. If the front is this bad I don't even want to see the back. Flies just there. This is my 3rd maybe 4th time there. 1 piece of my fish smelled really bad. The 1st 2 were good. Third one was the bad one. The rest were like really greasy. They put the bread on top so it didn't soak up the grease like they use to. Maybe I just had my tray upside down. The prices are high. My 2nd time going, you could smell the fishy trash throughout. They were cleaning in the back, I guess they were close to closing. I didn't go back for some years, Then someone told me they go and it's good now. So my 3rd trip in years was good..... Now this. I'm so disappointed. It's like I really tried to like them. If they can't make any repairs, just give it a good cleaning with some simple green.....Let it soak on the door handle and fans, everything ... And move the junk out of sight. Put some vinegar and dish soap in a cup with honey at the bottom I think let sit in about 4 cups around there. Probably 9 in the rear ......I really hope this helps. Not trying to cause no harm just want you guys...

People are nice but this is the third time the fish was burnt tasting but did not look it, tasted substandard. Nothing like the old Hawks. The potato salad tasted store bought and the macaroni & cheese is never fesh they need to stop serving that old junk sometimes very greasy and bleeding cheese greese.

Their barbeque sandwiches taste so much better than Brook Road. That boy is back there serving up junk for bbq. The sandwich is so small at Brook Road it is ridiculous and the sodas are so small that comes with the combo it is ridiculous not much bigger than a classic plastic white cup of courtesy coffee. The bbq had a gummy texture with the bread. The prices are much better on Williamsburg Road.

Southside is the only one that taste even remotely the way of old Hawks with regards to the fish. The last time and each time I go there, they capture that flavor. Unfortunately I do not live near. All the cooks need to get in there for retraining

The food was top notch and the staff was friendly. The reason for 3 stars. I'm glad you asked. To start, the laminated menus on the counter are confusing and one must go against the wall and bend backwards to view the menus hanging from the ceiling. They are a barbeque joint with a VERY limited selection of barbeque, no ribs during my visit. I know, they also sell fish but I wanted barbeque. As a takeout location, no complaints but dining in was an issue. Several tables were dirty in the dining area and the floor was so sticky I almost lost a sneaker. I could give some grace if the the place was busy but during my time there, there were very few customers and they were takeout. If the tables and floors are dirty, what does the kitchen look like? Does the staff wash their hands? That is why one prays over their food. I was looking for a black owned business to hold a b-day gathering with appx 20+ family and friends but unfortunately, it will not be Hawks on...
