Hop N Shop / Zero’s Subs — Restaurant in Virginia

I grew up eating at Zero's at the Birchwood shopping center in VA Beach. The hot grinder has been consistent there for decades. From the 80's until now. I now live a few hours away but hit that same Zeros everytime I'm in town. Took the family to Busch Gardens and we all wanted Zeros but did not want to drive to VA Beach so when we found this one nearby we were excited all day to have dinner there. The experience was quite depressing. The hot grinders that 5 of us got were not the same as we'd grown up eating. Far too much sauce, barely toasted, and did not even remotely taste the same. We all got 12" sandwiches and we all threw them away. My son got the cheesesteak and said it was the best he'd ever had though. And I expect that our sandwiches were not bad, just not at all what we know the famous hot grinder to be. It was not the sandwich we wanted or expected. The store was quite gross to be honest. Cluttered and not very clean. Staff were friendly enough to us. Bathroom was disgusting, a family member had to drive down the street as it was not usable. I would think Zeros would have more quality control over the food items being consistent and the stores that bear their name to be up to a better standard. There is no seating in the store, which is a convenience store with a small cluttered kitchen along the wall with the cash register. Other reviews show the food to be really good, and perhaps it is, if you have never experienced what a hot grinder should taste like and fully toasted without lots of creamy dressing in it which is totally...

HAD TO RATE THEM, BECAUSE THERE STEAK AND CHEESE SUB IS AMAZING AND THE HOT WINGS ARE GREAT.... I LOVE YOU GUYS, IF I EVER GET RICH I WILL DONATE SO GENEROUSLY TO YOU GUYS !!!!
