Manager is very hostile and unwelcoming. Unwilling to listen, lots of confusion on what the servers are serving. The food is mediocre and overpriced. No one at my company in Ruckersville will go here for our Friday lunches again. We can also cater for cheaper elsewhere.
Summary: 3 people are on one ticket, one orders a chicken sandwich, another a med well burger, another med burger all with fries and a drink. The runner sends out the chicken sandwich and tells me it is a med well burger. I inspect it, the meat is charred like a burger but it isn't on an English muffin. I figure it is a mistake, trust the runner and eat it the sandwich thinking it is a burger. I tell the runner hey, this is a chicken sandwich I don't mind eating it, please swap my order of a burger out for a chicken sandwich (they are the same price but was willing to pay the difference if there was any). The runner tells me she doesn't know what she's bringing out she just brings out food (then why did you tell me it was a burger)? The other waitress comes out with 2 burgers. My friend does not eat the burger because we wanted my burger swapped to a chicken sandwich. The manager from the back tells the waitress to tell us that we need to pay for another sandwich. The manager comes out of the back hostile and accuses us of stealing. We try to get her first name to contact the owner and the waitresses were told to ignore and not talk to us. One waitress eventually gets the managers permission to share her first name. My friend got no food (because he didn't eat the burger because it was not swapped to a chicken sandwich) and no refund until he called the owner. The refund process took about 15 minutes as well.
Piss poor service and we left very frustrated. Never eating here again. If the manager LISTENED and UNDERSTOOD the situation she could have EASILY corrected it. I was even willing to pay the difference between the burger and the chicken sandwich. Poor listening skills, poor communication, poor understanding of what they're serving. Childish amateurs working this joint. Thank goodness for the owner but his (edit)*staff, (not customers) are representing him poorly. If the manager and owner are reading this, I hope the owner does some serious training or get rid of the manager working...
Read moreExcellent little gem in the middle of the Ruckersville antique oasis. With what I would call a “country brunch” atmosphere, this is the perfect place to grab breakfast or brunch (both served all day) before starting your antiquing adventure (there is an antique shop directly above this place!) or wrapping up your adventure with lunch or dinner. I had their signature Jack’s Shop Burger and was not disappointed. The patty is thick and juicy (mine was medium) and the caramelized onions perfectly complimented the smoky bacon. The cheddar was the perfect thing to keep everything together with the fried egg providing all the creamy goodness of softer cheeses. This burger is a powerhouse of flavor and the toasted English muffin does a great job holding it all together without detracting from the flavor or getting in the way of your bites. The Parmesan fries are perfectly cooked with a crisp outer layer giving way to a creamy soft center. The seasoning is so on point that ketchup isn’t necessary. Spring for the crafter soda. It’s not local to the area but with the only ingredients being carbonated water, Fair Trade organic cane sugar, and fruit juice, this soda is full of flavor without being overpowered by sweetness. It can get pretty busy here on the weekends so calling ahead might be beneficial (although, I’m not sure they take reservations). This place is a “fast casual” joint so there is no table service, but the food is brought out to you and the table is cleared for you. Refills are self serve if you do go for the traditional service. Overall, this is a great place to bring the parents if you are at UVA and want to get out of town, if you want to explore while staying at Massanutten, or if you just want to have an excellent dining experience with...
Read moreWhile vacationing nearby, I decided to check out this place. The space is large, and I came on a Monday morning at opening. There was only one other table while I dined, but several parties come and go for pickup orders.
The food took a little time, but was well worth the wait. I was sad that the Banh Mi Crostini (Country Pate, Sriracha Mayo, Pickled Veg) was not available, but everything else was so delicious! The plates were cute, they looked like paper plates but were actually ceramic.
JS Smoked Salmon Popovers ("Everything" Spice, Pickled Red Onion, Capers, Dill Cream) - probably my favorite of the bunch. I don't know why it's so difficult to find good popovers, but these were so nice and fluffy. The seasoning and cream went together really well, and they were the perfect two-bite-sized portions.
Deviled Eggs (JS Pork Rinds, Smoked Paprika) - how can you go wrong with deviled eggs? The pork rinds were a nice, flavorful touch, though it made eating the eggs a bit messy. I think it was just enough pork rinds to not get sick of it; any more and it would have been too much.
Fried Green Tomatoes (Green Goddess Dressing) - fried green tomatoes are always good, but this dressing was to die for. If based on component only, this sauce was my favorite thing in this entire order. It had a bit of a tang to it that made me want to douse all my food with it. I'd buy this stuff by the gallon.
Truffle Eggs Benedict (Two Poached Eggs, Toasted English Muffin, Arugula, Roasted Mushrooms, JS Canadian Bacon, Truffle Hollandaise) - the roasted mushrooms gave the entire dish a really nice flavor that I wasn't expecting. I think that it was the one thing that made this plate of eggs benedict stand out from all of the other ones Ive had in the past (and...
