Kline's Dairy Bar - McGaheysville — Restaurant in Virginia

Heard good things about Kline's so I brought the gang of nine (extended fam) to see for myself. Now mind you, some of the fam had already been to this establishment and had informally reviewed so it was a safe bet. It seems crazy but they have been serving up this good stuff for 80 years. Today, the flavors they were serving were chocolate, vanilla, and chocolate chip cookie dough. I think the chocolate and vanilla are standard but the other one changes by the week. I suppose if you can be successful with three flavors, why offer more. I got the feeling Kline's is not intimidated by those chains who serve 31 flavors as if they have no couth. The only negative was there was a line when we went on a wednesday night, of all days. I know this is just a fault of being great, but still, if you're great and everybody knows it, you should think about more than three employees on summer nights (unless its a hiring shortage thing). The three that were in there were working hard. Lastly, its important to mention that the custard was good...really good. I went for the chocolate chip cookie dough and was not...

My husband and I wanted to end our wonderful vacation at Massanutten Resort with some ice cream. We went to Klines after reading a great review. To our surprise it was awful. There were only a few choices. Thinking it was a cool night we could order a cone without a mess… The ice cream was served in the tiniest cone we’ve ever seen! The ice cream was extremely soft. We were not able to speak to each other, we were too busy trying to inhale the ice cream before it ran down our arms. When finished my fingers were so sticky I couldn’t even think about driving home. I asked for a wet paper towel only to be told they didn’t have paper towels. Once I became a bit annoyed and explained how unhappy I was with their ice cream she suddenly had a wet paper towel. ( no public restrooms) This ice cream was ok tasting but the fact that we had to eat it so fast , we will not be returning anytime soon. It was also a bit pricey for a stressful...

I’ve visited here at least a dozen times. Today wasn’t a good visit. I ordered a banana split with whipped cream. Just like it says on the menu. They left the wet nuts off the banana split. When I pointed it out and asked for the wet nuts they said I’d need to throw away the ice cream so they could remake it. The banana split couldn’t be handed back in the window. I asked for the wet nuts in a container handed through the window and I’d put them on it myself. I was told they couldn’t do that according to company policy. Not sure why this was such a huge deal. It should have been as simple as putting nuts in a small container and handing them out the window. I ended up eating it without the nuts to keep from throwing it away and holding up the line. I’ll be sure to check before it comes through the window next time.
