*This review focuses more on Rosa and the older woman. Zola did her best despite the language barrier and the lack of assistance from her colleagues.
This morning, I visited the Rudder Rd location in Sterling, VA, near IAD. Two weeks ago, I noticed that new employees had replaced the regular staff. Today, I returned with my sister, hoping for breakfast tacos. The older woman from my previous visit was there again, and she ignored my request for salsa verde, only nodding in response to the quantity of tacos. Initially, I thought she was having a rough day, but it became clear she simply didn’t care to assist me (Asian woman), as she later acted pleasantly toward a Caucasian customer.
This time, she had assistance from an employee named Zola. While the older woman helped a customer (a Black male) with an overstuffed taco that couldn’t be wrapped, Zola took our order. Due to a language barrier, the older woman had to translate my order of four bean and cheese tacos into Spanish. Zola began preparing the tortillas while the older woman engaged the previous customer in personal conversation. It became apparent that the older woman’s behavior two weeks ago was not due to a rough day but rather a lack of willingness to help me.
When Zola asked again what was needed, I repeated the order. Noticing that three of the tacos had very small portions of beans, I requested a bit more. Through body language, I clarified the request as Zola seemed confused and even pointed to potatoes, despite my repeated requests for bean and cheese tacos.
At this point, Zola inquired again about the order. When I asked for more beans due to inconsistent portion sizes, Rosa, who had come from the back, rudely denied the request, claiming there were set portion sizes and that extra beans would cost more. The portion sizes had been inconsistent both today and two weeks ago. As Zola asked for the fourth time what the order was, my frustration grew. Rosa then unexpectedly began yelling, accusing us of being rude and stating that Zola barely spoke English and if we didn’t want the food, we should leave.
It is unclear why Rosa thought it was acceptable to yell at a paying customer. Additionally, if Zola couldn’t speak English well, it raises questions about why she was taking orders while Rosa, who spoke English, was in the back. The older woman’s decision to handle personal matters while other customers were waiting also seemed inappropriate. The inconsistency in portion sizes was highlighted further by the previous customer, whose taco was so overstuffed it had to be served in a bowl.
Due to this poor experience, I have decided not to return to this location unless there is new management or staff. This is unfortunate, as the previous team provided a much...
Read moreWhat's wrong with these reviews? IT'S GAS STATION FOOD! You're not at a Michelin ⭐ restaurant or Buc-ee's. (If you know.....you know. Who trashes gas station food?
It's 4 minutes from the airport pickup. The bathrooms are clean. It's in a 7-Eleven. It's affordable. The employees are super nice. They have free self serve sauces. FREE! McDonald's charges now for extra nugget sauce.
What's not to love?
I got a gigantic fried chicken breast for 3 bucks, tried all the sauces, and didn't get sick!
Go to the convenient store in the airport buy a premade sandwich created 10 days ago and water bottle for 20 bucks if you don't like it.
People will find anything to complain about.
When picking someone up from the airport I use it as an excuse to get a away for a bit. I leave early, gas up, get a snack, wait, watch videos, then take drink/snack requests from who I'm picking up which goes a little something like this......
"Hey I just landed! Are you here? We taxing now!!"
"Hell to the ya I'm here!!! Want coffee, water, chips, anything from 7-Eleven?"
"Wait what? That would be great! Airline tried to charge me $$$ for a soda. Thanks friend!!!!"
"Got it!"
"I'm at door number 3!"
"Door number 3 Yes mi'lord!! Be there in 4 minutes with dranks and snacks!"
Boom!!!! Coolest friend/family...
Read moreWas driving through Dulles Airport today and needed a quick bite, so I stopped by the Laredo Taco located inside the Sunoco gas station. There were no workers when I first walked up but they did poke their head out from the back and come out to help me. Once I ordered they were fairly quick to prepare it and get me on my way. The prices were a bit higher than I would have anticipated, but everything was fresh right in front of me.
One of the nice bonuses is that it’s attached to a 7-Eleven, so if I’d wanted to grab a drink, or anything extra, I had plenty of options. There’s also plenty of seating both inside and outside, which made it a really convenient place to stop, eat, and recharge for a few minutes before...
