New Asian Panda — Restaurant in Virginia

This is a pleasant surprise… My wife and I are new to the area (6 Months) and over the past few months we have been in town have been trying places to compare to our classic back home “American style Chinese” favorites. This was a great meal. We called, placed to go, and drove 9 minutes to pick up our “ready in 15” order. When I walked in the man working the counter was bringing that all to familiar brown paper bag from the back. Just our luck it was my order, we had a great quick conversation and I headed on my way. Now, for the food, that’s what matters because after all this is not a sit down style place, so ignore those negative atmosphere reviews…

The order was $52 for crab Rangoon, steamed pork dumplings (real dumps, not someone trying to pass Goyza off as a dumpling!) and 2 warm fresh egg rolls. The mains were General tso’ chicken and a happy family. One order white and one order fried rice. All were a great balance of flavor, meat, vegetables and sauce. We are extremely pleased with the overall experience and I recommend anyone looking for a quick filling meal show this spot some support.

NEVER, I REPEAT NEVER order from this place! Unless you want your order messed up and left on your doorstep. At first we never had any problems but since the last few months the service has gone all the way downhill. EVERY time we order one of the meals that explicitly says it includes white rice, the rice is missing upon delivery. I call to get the problem corrected and the person who answers the phone can’t give an estimated time of when the rice will arrive. So after waiting about an hour for the rest of the order to arrive, there is finally a knock on the door. I get off the couch to answer the door; the couch being directly next to the door it only took me maybe 10seconds to get to the door; and open the door not to find the delivery person but to find the rice sitting in a bag on the floor! There are so many thing things wrong with this. It is rude, disrespectful and most importantly unsanitary!!!! So after waiting a total of about 2 hour for my complete order my food is delivered on the floor making me feel even more foolish for even tipping the person in the first place when ordering....

We did delivery with DoorDash, where this place somehow scored a good rating.

Shrimp roll: greasy, bready, fat lump. Pulled the outer layer off and it was still bad. Shrimp, if present, was imperceptible.

Hot & Sour soup: like that it’s vegetarian (though I have no idea how you get something this gelatinous without gelatin, so I take that with a grain of salt). Flavor is a 2/10. It’s supposed to have enoki mushrooms, some sort of texture from tofu, something. I couldn’t eat it. Soup is a staple for me. I ordered from here FOR the soup. Fail.

Prawn Amazing: Not amazing at all. Tasted like not much of anything, but even the broccoli leaves a nice film of fat on your lips.

Fried rice: OMG. The worst fried rice I’ve ever had. Trader Joe’s sells it frozen in a bag you can microwave. That is much better than this. I can’t explain the taste. Bitter. No texture. No flavor. Just bad.

Sweet and sour shrimp: the only edible thing in the order. They can deep fry shrimp. Congrats.

I’ll never order from this place again. It’s really bad. Fortune cookies were the best part...
