If I could give zero stars I would. Absolutely the worst customer service ever!! I needed a cake for my son’s birthday and my usual bakery was booked months out. I went to Sylvia’s to place an order. The only flavors they have for cake is chocolate and vanilla. Only have whipped icing. No buttercream, no flavors. I placed an order for a simple cake for 30 people. I called to confirm order 2 days prior to the party and requested a list of ingredients as required by the venue. They absolutely refused stating “it’s only chocolate cake and icing. We don’t put bad things in our cake!” This request has never been an issue with other bakeries. I told them that I still needed the cake because it was too late to find another cake and I’d figured it out. The girl called me back at work to continue the argument over the ingredients with an extremely aggressive attitude. I canceled the order and picked up a cake out of the case at Buttermilk Bake Shop in Petersburg. They are always delicious and great people!! Do not recommend giving Sylvia’s your business! Because of the size of the cake I asked the lady that waited on me to walk out with me to open my vehicle door. As soon as I placed it on the floor we noticed the icing had rubbed against the box it was in and had smeared on the decor on the cake. I asked her if they could fix it and she went to the back room and came back and said they could fix it for $20. I had already spent $200 for the cake and they wanted $20 to fix the picture that was on the cake, that took less than 10 minutes. The box they had it in was not appropriate for that size cake. I only drove about 5 miles to the venue driving slow and the cake had smeared again but this time it was on the back side. Read moreI ordered a 3 tier cake for a function. Discussed the cake with Silvia's sister and was given a price & receipt that said "Lemon, Lemon, Lemon" representing flavors of 3 tiers. Later when I returned for pick up the cake was 2 tiers. Silvia's sister crossed off one Lemon on her receipt. No one called to discuss this with me. Their problem resolution was awful. No apology or acknowledgment of the error and after much conversation one girl says, "Look you want it or not?" The two tier cake was beautiful but their professionalism and problem resolution was awful. I needed the cake right then, so I took it, but i strongly feel if I matched their language & culture I would have been treated with more respect. After many requests for accommodation for their error all that was compensated for was $20. Maybe I"ll return if I can change my culture & learn their language....
