WhatABurger? More like WHAT A MESS. We stopped here because we thought it might be one of the famous SOUTHERN chain of burger joints, Whataburger. Unfortunately, our GPS didn't clarify that this was indeed NOT the modern and well-loved Southern chain at all. The place is so old and run down. There are not even bathrooms inside, they are on the outside of the building. And they SMELL, really, really bad. Just unclean and gross. There comes a time when a facility just NEEDS to update. That was true for this place at least 20 years ago. We chose to eat outside because 1. we had our dog with us and 2. it was NOT very nice inside. At. All. The outside would have been a lot more bearable if people weren't flying by with loud cars on the main road out front, or waiting with engines running right near where we were. It was also so sunny with no shade as someone had hacked off the pretty magnolia overhead that likely would have made it nicer to be out there. But, hey, we don't mind "hole in the wall" places and decided to try it anyhow. The prices were a little astonishing, to be honest. It was over 40 dollars for 3 people to get just a regular meal size with burgers, sides and drinks because everything is a la cart. Let me just say, we were roundly disappointed. I REALLY do NOT know if most of the reviews I read for this place are from people who actually consumed food here because our experience was AWFUL. I mean it. The burgers were so BLAND with NO seasoning. Walmart buns that were falling apart because they were mostly air, cheap shredded, wilted iceberg lettuce, PROCESSED "cheese", like one pickle and one tiny tomato slice on each one. There wasn't even any real condiments on them. I NEVER order ice in drinks from places like this b/c I have no idea how they make their ice or where they store it. But, one of our group wanted ice, so got it in her drink. The issue was that it made a strange aftertaste in her drink....so bad that she wound up throwing it out. A DRINK. In a CUP. Like HOW do you get that so wrong?? The fries and sides were just as bad. I bit into one fry and could taste every other thing they were likely storing in their freezers with them and they were barely cooked. The "onion rings" were more like soggy hoops, downright slimy inside and the onion not done. Most of those got chucked in the bin as well. This is all a mark of unclean and not properly hot fryers. Also, even though I ordered THREE meals, they just shorted us an entire fry. They did come out and try to correct that. BUT we, at that point were so disgusted by the food that we just refused it. It wasn't really the staff's fault. They were all very pleasant, but we were just so disgusted and felt completely ripped off and duped by a "chain" that doesn't deserve to be in existence. We all felt pretty ill after a few minutes back in our car after leaving the place. One of our party actually threw up. We had to stop, find bathrooms, scramble for stomach meds, the whole shebang. This place is GROSS. I have NO idea why so many people like the food here. WHAT are...

Recent visit consisted of a continued downward spiral in quality and service at this location.

The fry’s are frequently undercooked and over salted. The burger I ordered was soggy and mushy. We ordered a large fry and we got a small

I brought the food back for a refund and the Manager, Latoya, could only complain and be argumentative. The manager was very condescending and combative for no reason. As a family we spend quite a bit of money in this restaurant but that is definitely going to stop if the quality continues toto plummet. There is no reason for a fast food service worker to take personally, everything that comes through the door.

We do not appreciate the rudeness of the staff when THEY make a mistake.

Great food. Burgers are quite a bit thinner compared to what they used to be years ago but they are still tasty. It's almost exactly the same burgers and food as the franchise out west. Great staff most of the time. Although im not sure im a fan of people working in their pajamas And serving food.

Updated review. Ordered food on a Sunday and this is what we got. Overcooked corn dog and fries that had a bunch of carbon build up from where the...

The short, round woman with the double chin, covered in sweat, with her hair pulled into a ball working at the front today at 5:30pm wasn’t very nice to me. She was very nice to all of the other gentlemen and even my boyfriend who I came in with, but when I was requesting my order she was rude. Didn’t greet me and didn’t even tell me my ticket number or anything. No, it wasn’t busy & no I wasn’t expecting her to give me special treatment. I just noticed that she went out of her way to be rude to me though I was kind to her. That’s strange considering I’m the customer and she’s the employee, but hey. Food was great, fresh and hot. Fries bomb. Place is virtually clean, minus a fly but it’s summer and their door is open constantly so it’s understandable. Service was very quick, they definitely get you in and out. Sandwich was a little salty though and I wish the fries were crispy. Just didn’t understand why I got treated differently and then the customer service, kindness, and corn kernel smile instantly snapped back into that when my boyfriend ordered his food. It’s...

Good Ole, What-a-Burger. This place gets slammed at lunchtime. it had been a while since I've been to one and never been to this location. I beat the heavy rush, but still was about 3ppl deep to order. Got a burger all the way, with bacon and grilles onions. Food was fairly fast since they made it fresh for you. Tasted good, fries were a bit undercooked, but nothing too bad. They have a number of tables and a counter you can sit at. Not very big. Few picnic tables outside but it was raining when I went. Burger, fries, and a drink for just under $16, not too bad. Much better than a McDonald's or BK burger, almost how mom would have made it at home.

I've seen this burger joint so many times and wanted to stop and try the What-a-Burger. Finally did. Apparently, it's been around since the early days of the drive-ins (1950s). The place was called Roy's Big Burgers then. The current reiteration has indoor dining and popular takeout. There's a wide menu of grilled & deep-fried items. I had the What-a-Burger with cheese and the works. Well, I wasn't too impressed with it. Cooked frozen patties don't have much favor. With the moisture of the grilling, combined with the overuse of mustard and shredded lettuce, the sandwich became very soggy and turned into What-a-Bad-Burger.
