My husband and I have been going to Zamarod since it opened. This restaurant, in the opinion of many, is a hidden jewel and has become our “Go to” place for dinner, whether it’s just the two of us, or an evening out with friends, or when I’m hosting an after dinner bridge party with many. The comments I always hear are, “WOW, this place is great! The food is delicious. I didn’t know this place was here. I’ll definitely be coming back.” From the wonderful appetizers all the way to the desserts, this meal cannot be beat. Everything is always so fresh, and the Afghan flavors are amazing. But that’s not all. In addition to the great food (and some of the best bread I have ever eaten that is brought to your table straight from the oven with your meal) the Manager, Niaz, is genuinely welcoming, friendly, and provides the atmosphere that makes you believe you are having dinner in his home. He is accommodating, flexible, and can help you with choices that would suit your particular diet. Thank you Niaz, for your hard work in making this restaurant what it is today, We will keep coming back as...
Read moreIt is very unfortunate that I had such a negative experience here. But restaurant owners need to step their game up. I came in with the offer that they had posted on their own website for lunch. I was seated and I showed them the printed offer, and the owner said that this was from a long time ago and he won't accept it. He said they posted it up on their website and don't honor it anymore, and that because it was old, I should have known that. Somehow the owner's claim was that his inability to have his website represent was my fault and that I should have known better. So I got up and left. I drove a pretty long way to get there and had to find somewhere else to eat in a rush. My recommendation is that never allow restaurant owners to get away with tricking you into coming in their restaurant. This is not the first time a restaurant owner has done this to me, and I have left every single time. You own the money and you own the scenario...
Read morePicked Zamarod because it was between our home and Wolf Trap. My Wife and I have always enjoyed afghan spices, and this looked to be an "upscale" kabob place.
We were both blown away by the food they served.
A wonderful blend of spices and high quality ingredients that had both of us wiping our plates clean with the delicious bread they serve. I had Sirloin Kabob and my wife had a Lamb dish served with Pumpkin (mine was one of the daily specials). The sirloin was well marinated in fragrant (and tasty) spices and cooked to perfection; However, it was not the star on the plate. The star of the plate was - and I still can't believe I'm saying this - turnips. Yes, turnips. They were cooked down until they had caramelized and served with a tomato based sauce. Perfection.
My wife thoroughly enjoyed her lamb and the side dishes too.
Bottom line is that we will look for opportunities to visit...
