Woody's has never disappointed me! Sure, they can be crowded but that's a part of their atmosphere and the regulars know ...IT'S WORTH THE WAIT! Once they are full with customers others will wait at the door and outside depending on the weather. There is outside seating as well. I've not been out there so i can't review that experience. One little nit pick...and I mean little. If a group calls for a reservation it would be a good thing to have a "Reserved" sign handy and placed. I watched two groups of customers come in and get comfortable and then were told the table was reserved. One family didn't want to try and get back in line where there was really no standing room so they ventured to outside seating. The other group left altogether. I do think reserved signs would solve this. The restaurant is clean, has a nostalgic diner atmosphere, and tables are cleaned off quickly. There are booths, tables, a large round table, seating at the counter, and outside seating. Overall it is limited space but turnover isn't terrible. Customers that know Woody's staff and food...no problem! It's worth the wait. Our waitress was inviting, energetic, quick with our drinks and to get our order. She was very helpful.when ordering. We hadn't been to Woody's in a while and her knowledge of the menu and serving sizes was absolutely a win-win. Needless to say...Woody's serves large portions. This time we had the fried mushrooms appetizer. Oh my! There use to be a lot of mushrooms in a basket. Now there are 6-8 large mushroom tops battered wonderfully. They have to be almost 3 inches in width. They laid nicely in a basket with a great homemade horseradish dip. DELISH! I had the regular size Taco Salad which took some patient and creative mixing techniques. It came out in a beautiful display and all the goodies to go with it such as sour cream and salsa. There were no little portions of those either, two sides of each. My guest ordered the cheeseburger and fries. Talk about people checking it out when it arrived at the table! And it didn't disappoint. 1/2 pound of excellent beef and freshly prepared. It smelled as great as it looked. Once stacked with all the fixings I couldn't imagine his first bite. He did it! And he gave a big thumbs up! The cut fries were crowded onto his plate. A portion even he wasn't sure he could finish, but did. Our waitress checked on us, refilled our drinks, and had our check to us in short time. She cashed us out quickly as well. This has to be their secret to quick turnover of guests and tables. She was very polite and helpful. We loved giving her a tip and made it a tip that she realized how much her service was as good as the food. Will return often and just might reserve the big...
Read moreYou want goodies? Go to Woody’s! There aren’t enough good things to say about this wonderful diner. After visiting the farm where my husband was born in New Knoxville, my husband, brother-in-law and I met cousins from Celina at Woody’s (none of us had ever been there before). Because it was Friday night at 5pm, we made reservations and were immediately seated at a large center table and were instantly attended to by Andrea. You couldn’t ask for a better, friendlier, prettier, or more competent server. She never bugged us but always made sure every detail was attended to almost without our knowing it. Now for the food ... don’t eat for three days before coming to Woody’s. The portions are HUGE and everything is beyond delicious. We began with an order of onion straws and an order of deep-fried mushrooms for the table as appetizers. Oh, my goodness! I was eating these with two hands as fast as I could cram them in my mouth (if you order nothing else, order those!). As entrees, our cousins ordered the Friday night fish special (hand battered, deep fried fish with choice of two sides) which were out of this world. My husband and brother-in-law both ordered the fried pork tenderloin sandwich (it’s a regional thing) which neither of them had enjoyed in decades -- they proclaimed them to be perfection. I had the 7-inch pizza with everything on it, and I do mean EVERYTHING!! It had so many toppings on it that it had to be eaten with a knife and fork. Woody’s has a good beer selection and they pour their wine liberally. Andrea even brewed fresh coffee for the table. For all of this delectable goodness, each of us took home enough food for another meal and my husband paid a mere pittance. There’s plentiful parking right next to the restaurant (that’s a good thing because there was a line of eager patrons waiting to be seated when we left), and you’ll feel very comfortable wearing your Ohio State attire. I can see another visit to Wapak in the very near future so we can go...
Read moreWe aren’t Ohio State Buckeye fans, but it’s a very cool place for anyone who is. I ordered the grilled chicken salad and my husband ordered the tenderloin. My chicken was seasoned very nicely- good salad. My husband said the tenderloin wasn’t that great. He said he would compare it to a “ county fair” tenderloin, but we are pretty particular on tenderloin and like them thick and juicy, this one was just thin and overcooked. The service was definitely lacking. When we walked in there were only people at two other tables yet the person standing behind the counter didn’t even acknowledge us. We awkwardly stood there not knowing if we should seat ourselves or not. I finally just spoke out and asked if we could sit at the nearby booth. Now it’s the day after Memorial Day, so I was willing to give her grace after I can only assume she had a busy weekend. But the unfriendliness continued whenever she approached the table and as other people arrived I noticed she wasn’t any friendlier to them. She was so uncomfortable, it got to the point that I didn’t even want to tell her I wanted a refill on my tea. It wasn’t until she laid down our bill that she noticed my drink was gone and she asked if she could get me a refill. I declined since we were leaving. I’m still going to give the restaurant 4 stars, hopefully the waitress was having a bad day and we just happen to...
