The Glen Cove Hotel & Restaurant was a great choice for us! I'm going to go over the restaurant and our hotel stay in this review. The location is perfect for those who want walkable access to local attractions in Onset. The beach is literally right across the street and is perfect for a quick frolick without having to lug around the needed beach accessories. The interior of the hotel is beautifully designed. It's slightly archaic (in a good way) and it felt like being inside someone's home. Check in was very easy, and they even called us to let us know that we could check in early (which we didn't since we arrived about an hour late). The room was cozy and clean. Don't expect lots of bells and whistles; it's set up is simplistic and I prefer that. Be aware though that there isn't a refrigerator in the room. They do provide 24 hour access to a fridge down in the lobby where you can get yogurt, water, juice, and milk.
The included continental breakfast doesn't include any hot food, but they do give fresh coffee and hot water for tea and oatmeal. They also have cold cereal (great for kids), muffins, and granola bars. I would've liked hot foods to be available, but I think what they offered was fine especially for the fair pricing. The dining experience was fantastic. We had dinner here two nights: Tuesday and Thursday. Tuesday night was quiet, and we ate on the outer deck. Our waitress (can't remember her name) was absolutely fantastic and knew the menu very well. She made some great suggestions and we loved everything we had. I strongly suggest the bruschetta.
Thursday night was a bit different as they had live music in their downstairs bar (the 1883 lounge). We ordered mostly appetizers while enjoying the performance from Michael Paul Brennan. They had a coconut shrimp special which was absolutely delicious. Everything we ordered that night was just as good as Tuesday. The service on both nights was also very good. We never had to wait around for our waitresses and they never rushed us throughout the evening.
Overall our stay was fantastic and we loved every bit of it, save for only two minor things: our bed and the pillows. We both found the bed to be a little too stiff for our liking. The two pillows included in the room were either super soft or very firm. I'm sure there are people who like a firmer bed, but we weren't them. Also, keep in mind that the parking lot isn't huge. It's a decent size, but it gets filled up quickly around dinner time, which isn't a surprise given how delicious the food is. Just keep that in mind that you may have to wait for a spot after a full day out. Those are the only negatives I can think of, and honestly even with that I think I would still return. It was a pleasant stay overall and we enjoyed ourselves. I definitely think a stay here is worth a shot for the average person, especially considering how close to the beach you are. You also don't need to travel for delicious food if you don't want to, and if you decide to do so, there are plenty of options within...
Read moreI'm giving a 4 star review but if I had my choice I'd give a 5 star review to the restaurant & 3 to the hotel. The restaurant was fantastic! Food, drinks, dessert & service were top notch. The stuffed quaohog was delicious, made with Portuguese sweet bread & chock full of quaohog pieces. Service was friendly & attentive.
The hotel room was adequate, clean & had a lovely view of the ocean. We decided on a queen room with private balcony, but to access the balcony we had to leave our room & enter via a door in the hall so our room looked onto the balcony through the windows but was not connected. 2x other hotel guests came onto the balcony. It was uncomfortable with strangers looking into our room from what was supposed to be our private space. The room was cheaply appointed with a small 20" TV & a plastic dorm room set of drawers for a bureau. For the $200/ night charge we expected a cute boutique hotel feel. It missed the mark. It literally took 8 minutes for hot water to come out of the shower head & I never got hot water out of the sink faucet. The common stairs & hall badly needed to be swept. Continental breakfast was included & left quite a bit to be desired. It was coffee, tea or juice, cold cereal or oatmeal in pre packaged bowls & itty-bitty prepackaged Entenmann's cakes. I will say the service at the front desk was friendly & competent. They were swift to assist with preparing our breakfast tray &...
Read moreI haven't stayed in this hotel but we did attend the restaurant for Thanksgiving dinner.
We sat at the bar and ordered. Food arrived promptly and our bar staff was friendly and helpful. Drinks were good but a little steep in price ($10 for Tanqueray) for the area. Given the atmosphere and the view, this is forgivable.
The food was good, though also a bit on the high side. The wedge salad (picture attached) for $17 was actually the highlight of our meal. That's not to say the other food wasn't good, but the presentation and taste of the salad was excellent. A perfect combination of balsamic and blue.
The design of the bar area is a bit unfortunate because it bottlenecks at the entry to the bar area. This would not have been too much of an issue except they decided to also place small tables there too, exacerbating the problem (and also making one of the exits difficult to access - yikes). To add to the unfortunately compact design of the bar, there were too many bar stools at the bar for them all to be comfortably occupied. We had to remove a bar stool and place it against the wall just to be able to sit down.
The parking can be a bit of a challenge, they have only about 12-15 spots in their lot which is deceptively one way (come around the back, the spots are slanted for entry from the rear).
Overall, I would definitely...
