DAK Korean Fried Chicken — Restaurant in Warren Township

We were looking for a good take-out place last night and came across Dak KFC in Warren (actually seemed closer to Watchung). Reviews were good on both Yelp and Google so we decided to give it a try. The place is in a neighborhood strip mall, but inside was nicely done and clean.

Now onto the fried chicken. Turns out the reviews were spot on. We ordered 20 wings, half-n-half of soy garlic and the original recipe. We were concerned that the original would be bland, but it was flavorful and the soy garlic was super tasty. To top it off, the lady behind the counter (not sure if the owner) gave us a bunch of sauces to sample which was nice.

The packaging kept the chicken crispy even after the ride home which we were concerned about - nothing worse than soggy fried chicken! The only thing that we wished for was a broader array of sides other than the fries and onion rings. Not enough to take away from our rating of the main star. We tried this new establishment recently given the reviews here. They were SPOT ON! When your expectations are high then the restaurant delivers, that is amazing. The fried chicken was extremely crispy and juicy. We got wings and tenders. Garlic soy wings and sweet spicy wings were amazing. We tried a bunch of sauces with the tenders and really liked one that we believe was mango (that wasn't on the menu for wings). The snow cheese fries and onion rings were excellent. Looking forward to returning soon and many times in the future.

One note: would be nice to have some kind of available vegetable side(s) to make a complete meal. Plan to just make a salad at home when we order.

The chicken quality has gone down since the new Indian owners took over. The first time I went in when the new owners were there, they weren’t that friendly and inviting it just felt like we were there just to give them money, like it’s only a money endeavor for them. They changed the fan-favorite ‘sweet and spicy’ sauce. It tastes completely different now. It seems to me they are now using cheaper ingredients to make the same menu items. Not sure though. Their fries are still some of the best fries you can buy. However, chicken quality has gone down drastically. I also ordered for delivery once and I’m getting an Indian restaurant pamphlet ad in my bag. Chicken tikka masala is my favorite dish of all time, but it just doesn’t hit the same anymore.
