Traveled over 500 miles to celebrate a close friend’s wedding and was genuinely excited when he told us he had made dinner reservations for our group at West and Main over a month in advance. He had raved about the place, so we were looking forward to a great evening.
The food? Decent—not Michelin-star worthy by any stretch, but ok. Our server was lovely, gracious, and clearly working hard to accommodate a group of 30–35 guests who had traveled from across the country. She even mentioned it was the busiest Thursday she had worked in the last four months, and she handled it with kindness and professionalism.
Unfortunately, the entire experience was soured by the behavior of the owner/chef.
While catching up with a friend I hadn’t seen in a while—literally standing at the bar, not causing a scene—I was abruptly confronted by the owner. With a wrinkled nose and an aggressive tone, he got in my face and informed me (with zero signage posted anywhere) that his policy required all guests to be seated. Before I could even respond, he began threatening other guests in our party—including the groom’s sister—saying he would call the police because people were standing and mingling in the bar area.
Seriously?
For someone running an open-air kitchen, where visibility and atmosphere matter, his attitude was beyond unprofessional. He came off rude, hostile, and absolutely lacking in the kind of hospitality you’d expect from someone in the service industry—especially when hosting a pre-planned, celebratory group dinner.
I later learned this same owner used to run a ramen spot nearby. Given how he treated us, it’s no surprise that restaurant is no longer in business.
Maybe one day he’ll take a trip to Nashville—or any city that actually embraces guests—and see how real hospitality is done. Until then, I won’t be returning, and I certainly won’t recommend this place to anyone who values being treated with...
Read moreOne of the best restaurants in NE OH! The food is actually good - like really good - the ingredients are fresh, and the staff are friendly. My husband and I lived in Raleigh and just moved to the area, and this reminds us of the caliber and quality of food and service there. If you haven't been to W&M yet, you are missing out!
Ok, editing my review to comment on a few 1-star reviews from the same large group... My husband and/or girlfriends and I go to W&M quite often (I go one every week or two), and I believe I was at West when this group came in; unless there was another large (and obnoxious) group that was there around the same timeframe. Anyway, I can confirm that the owner's responses are accurate. This is a small restaurant and cannot accommodate 30-40 people at the drop of a hat. This group (lumping everyone together) was rude and demanding, and honestly, they were the ones who ruined other's dining experience with their entitlement. I'm glad they stayed they won't be returning, bc honestly, as a customer, I don't want people who behave like they did around me. It's not pleasant. If I were the owner, I would have kicked the entire group out, but that's why I don't own a restaurant. I take reviews seriously, and that's why I felt the need to "write" this. Also, when my friends/family are in Nashville again, just like in the past, we will be respectful to the restaurant and patrons and not cause a scene, etc., bc here in the north, we know...
Read moreI would like to point out that the person making the reservation stated the party would end up being 30 to 40 individuals after dinner was finished. This party did not force any party out or was an inconvenience for any incoming party. The restaurant was empty when we entered and was emptied when we left. This solely was an issue with the owner and his ineptitude in running a customer service business. Never should a customer have to deal with being ridiculed and put down by an owner for reuniting with loved ones over such a joyous weekend as a wedding.
If I could give zero stars, I would. This place was an embarrassment. We had a large group reuniting after more than a decade—an incredibly special occasion. Instead of being welcoming or even remotely professional, the owner had the audacity to literally point fingers in people’s faces because gasp a few of us weren’t glued to our exact seats. Are you serious?
It was like dealing with a wannabe drill sergeant running a prison cafeteria, not a hospitality business. No flexibility, no basic human decency—just rigid rules and rude behavior. If you’re looking for a place that respects you as a customer (or even just as a human being), this is NOT it. Stay...
