as a 10 year old boy I stumbled around the neighborhood streets of Warwick, I was new to the area and didn't know anyone, I was only allowed to venture to the end of my road and at the end of this road existed this seemingly innocuous white building. Cosmic Pizza. I remember venturing inside and being immediately hit with the tantalizing smells of fresh baked pizza and hearing the roaring sound of laughter and jokes amongst the staff. They where welcoming and kind I remember scraping what few bills I had to buy a slice and for the first time in my very young life truly experiencing what pizza is. The owner would give me more in quarters than I ever spent on pizza to play this little cabinet arcade game that sat in the corner of this restaurant. As a kid who knew nobody I experienced a sense of community for the first time.
This was over 20 years ago.
I long moved away from Rhode Island, and this tiny pizza shop. I have eaten pizza from the heart of New Haven to the corners of New York. I have traveled the country and experienced how the love of food can transcend our society and communities.
I was lost in warwick today and by chance happened to drive by Cosmic Pizza, I was hit with a wave of memories and had to pull in. As I walked in I was transported back. The smells of amazing pizza fresh in the air. The sound of laughter and joy coming from the staff and the kindness that everyone showed me. I placed an order for a small chicken Bacon ranch and waited. You could sense the feeling of family and community in here, this is a locally owned business and it shows. And in the corner still existed a small little arcade cabinet.
The man handed me my pie and said "this one looks good" he was absolutely correct. The pizza has a wonderful buttery crust with a perfectly airy and crisp crunch to the undercarriage, very intentional flavors tie together creating a wonderful taste sensation the seasoning is incredible and the freshness took this pizza to another level. Normally I like to wait to take a photo but the smell from the box was calling me. I had to dig in.
It's been over 20 years, time has changed many things, however Cosmic Pizza has managed to stay absolutely perfect. I wish them another successful twenty years and now that I am in the state again I am excited to have a place that I know can always create exceptional pizza.
Few words can describe the feelings of being transported back to your youth, but flavors seem to always unlock that bridge. Cosmic Pizza is a Warwick staple and after my visit today I...
Read moreMy partner and I were here for dinner. I ordered 2 weinersand a small soda, she ordered a calzone, fries, and a small drink. It took over 30 minutes for us to get our order. My partner asked why it took so long, and she was told it was because she " had ordered like she was getting fine dining." She laughed and said to me well I guess I am being schooled. How can a canzone, fries, and a small drink be considered ordering like fine dining at this restaurant? There were two women and a man in the booth across from us. When my partner remarked about being schooled, one of the women said to her, " If you didn't want to wait, you shouldn't have come in on a Saturday when it is busy." When we ordered, the two women and the man, my partner, I were the people in the restaurant other than the owner, staff, and delivery person picking up orders to be delivered. My partner said, "Excuse me, but I wasn't talking to you." The woman said, "Well, I have something to do with this restaurant, so I am telling if you didn't want to wait, you shouldn't have come in." She continued to mouth off to my partner and made it so uncomfortable that we went to the counter and requested to speak to the owner and a refund since we were not going to eat our food as the woman had upset both of us. The owner came to the counter, and my partner told him what had been happening and why we wanted our money back. The woman walked into the back and denied starting on my partner. She said my partner was talking to her. I told the owner that she was lying and that my partner was talking to me and that the woman had verbally attacked my partner for no reason. I told him what she had said, and he did not confirm that she was an employee but said she was just being protective. Unfortunately, if he allows her to treat his customers in this way, she is not being protective. She is hurting his business. My partner has been going to this business since she was a child when her parents would bring her and her siblings there. The food is not fine dining. It is simple weiners, pizza, canzone, etc. He has lost two customers who were supportive of his business because of the actions of a rude, obnoxious woman. We will get our weiners at New York System in Olnyville from now on. The service is fast, and the atmosphere is always fantastic, and the food...
