After reading countless FB testimonials raving about this place, I decided to try it. As a backdrop, I make my own homemade meatballs and am 100%, Italian, 2nd generation American. My bar for what comprises a great meatball is high & I entered this place ordering an eggplant sandwich, they were all out of eggplant and upon asking if their chicken cutlet parm was deep fried, being met with a yes(properly prepared chicken parm should be pan fried), I had no alternative but to try their meatball & provolone sandwich, which is supposedly why everyone comes here. May I also add, imho, the makings of a great sandwich are 3 parts ingredients & 1 part construction. The ingredients; actual meatballs weren't bad, just more dense than I'm use to making, they tasted good though. The sauce for me was overly sweet & of a chunky tomato variety. I prefer a marinara, more akin to a passata and fresh basil would be nice....still it wasn't awful. The provolone was ordinary, I prefer a sharp, smoky provolone. The construction: again for my personal preference, the perfect sandwich doesn't fall apart, this did...why? The bread was good enough, not great, crispy from the oven to hold everything together, but...when you put full size meatballs in a grinder role, the combo doesn't work without meatballs sliding out. Cutting the meatballs in half or at least breaking them, sqishing them enough to contort to the roll would have helped make this a better constructed sandwich. Overall it was a good sandwich but not good enough for a return trip, at...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOrdered a meatball sub for $18.90 through grub hub which said there was no extra charge for pick up. Received a Chicken Parm sub and didn't realize until I got back to work (15min drive one way) and took a bite from the sandwich. I called to see if I could get my money back. The girl who handed me my sandwich realized they made a mistake and put me on hold to find out about a refund. The owner got on the phone and said I couldnt get a refund because I ordered through grub hub. She said I could come back and get the right sandwich but I needed to bring the old sandwich in. After I informed her that I already took a bite she said she was just going to throw it away and that they do this because some people will eat both sandwiches. Well yeah lady... You made a mistake and I missed my lunch. The least you could do is let the customer keep the sandwich. I didn't bring it back. I did eat both and they were both amazing! The girl at the counter was super nice. The price was a little high but I don't mind paying for great food. I will definitely go back, I just found the owners request for the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBeing born and raised in Queens, NY (and in New Jersey for a short stint before the Navy), Iāve had my fair share of good Chicken Parm Subs. It had been a while since Iāve had a great one and Mirabellas exceeded my expectations. Youāre not getting no Chef Miked (microwaved) BS here. You are getting gigantic slabs of delicious hand breaded chicken cutlets, with just the right amount of their beautiful house sauce, and a very generous amount of cheese all crammed into a perfect loaf of Italian bread. There really was a homey feeling to the place and I wasnāt even in there for long. The owner and the lady at the register were both very sweet and talked to me as if I was family. When I made sure that my chicken was to be breaded, one of them jokingly told me to put my hand out and slapped it as if they were offended Iād assume theyād prepare the sub any other way. I am stationed in Groton, CT and will be making the drive often to eat there again....
