This was such a disappointing dining experience. We decided to come here after Milk & Honey (across the street) told it us it would be a two hour wait. Oohh's and Aahh's is known for their soul food so we were surely shocked that our dining experience lacked soul, food, oohh's, and aahh's. As someone who has dined in before during the week and has ordered delivery from this place several time, I cannot believe the customer service or food me and my friends received yesterday. First, it took forever to alert somebody that we wanted to be seated. We were escorted a dark upstairs space where a party of at least 20 already was. it was so dark we could barely see. We asked the employee if he could turn on the lights. He said yes but they would complaint hat the lights make it too hot up there. Who is "they", we never found out. We had no menus and it took about 15 mins for somebody to come and deliver those. She took our drink orders and returned maybe out 10- 15 minutes later to take our orders. Our waitress was very unprofessional and had an attitude that radiated off of her. This set the tone for our dining experience. As a party of six in a loud upstairs space, our waitress refused to move around the table to take each person's order. Instead, she yelled "next" across the table. We waited over an hour and a half for our mediocre food. During this time, the large party that was there before us walked out due to horrible service, more big parties were brought upstairs, and a party of six that arrived at least 20 minutes after us receive our food before us. We also witnessed the waitress bring a side of untouched macaroni that was placed at the abandoned large party's table to the other table of six, as if she hadn't just placed it on an empty table 5-10 minutes ago. During this time, we requested water and drink refills that we never got and kept being told that out food was on the way. It got to the point that my friend had to go downstairs to speak to management about our orders and why we hadn't received them. About 10 minutes later, someone who I assume to be management came up and apologized and said they would be assigning us a new waiter. Magically, our food came out instantly after this and we finally got our refills. And this is where it gets even worse.
My shrimp and grits was disgusting. I don't even know if what I was served should be called shrimp and grits. The sweet grits were topped with shredded (not melted) cheese, gravy, sauteed peppers, and blackened shrimp. After stirring it well and trying to enjoy it, it still didn't taste good. Someone else at our table, also had shrimp and grit. She had the same complaint. They ended up giving us 50% off the bill but only took one of the shrimp and grits orders off. We left disappointed and hungry. I cannot see myself dining at this establishment again.
Oohh's and Aahh's has an opportunity to benefit from the long wait times at Milk & Honey across the street, but will continue to disappoint new and returning customers if they continue deliver dining experiences like the one me and friends had. Hopefully, they can get...
Read moreI visited this establishment on 03/14/21 for a friend’s birthday party. I got excited when my friend sent me the menu because I love soul food and saw a lot of items that I was interested in trying. When we arrived, it seemed as though they were ill-prepared, yet rushing us to have our entire party to be seated. Once shown to our seating, it (again) appeared as though they were not capable of adequately accommodating a group this size (12-18).
I ordered the Half&Half to drink, and the “New” Fried Chicken Leg Quarter (flavored with Lemon Pepper sauce) with Mac and Cheese, “Yams” and Cornbread as my meal (pictured). I did not expect to apply the sauce myself, as well as not expecting the yams to be puréed. The cornbread was sweet, yet lacking. The chicken was seasoned on the skin, but bland as far as the meat. The yams had the consistency of Gerber baby food. The Mac and cheese was decent.
Customer service was poor, as the waitress seemed bothered by our party, and then annoyed when some of us wanted to substitute sides. We were then informed that in order to do so, they would have to surrender their current sides, as per their policy. When the owner (who was dressed as though he did not have pride in the business) came to our table, we voiced our concerns; it was almost as though he threw the kitchen staff under the bus and blamed them for our lack of satisfaction.
As someone who enjoys soul food, I was disappointed in the experience. I finished my plate, but did not feel heavy, like one would normally feel after eating. I didn’t feel “the itis,” and I was more so ready to go home than to stay and enjoy the atmosphere. As someone who advocates for Black-owned businesses, I was a bit ashamed and embarrassed to have supported this establishment.
If I were to ever return, there would have to be a change in the customer service, quality of food, and the overall atmosphere and policy regarding customer...
Read moreNot the greatest experience at the dine-in location near Walmart on Georgia Avenue in Washington, D.C. Went there on a Saturday afternoon and was told it would be a 10-minute wait and was seated over 40 minutes later. During the wait chaos and miscommunication among staffers was obvious with no one updating either those waiting to be seated or at the counter for takeout orders. Personally, I would have left after 25 minutes and no updates but my companion was willing to wait because of immediate hunger and eagerness to try preferred food items on the menu.
Once finally seated, the wait was 20-minutes more before anyone took our order. Despite his apologies and assurances that we would be served in a matter of moments we were in for a 50 minute wait before our food arrived. During this particular wait part of the adventure, we were told ( by a young man with braided hair) that there was a large group of people upstairs who were late arrivals for a scheduled reservation and the staff was playing catchup. The young man seemed to be the only staffer trying to manage the lower floor in an orderly fashion.
When the food arrived the fish was the only thing that was hot. My grits were lukewarm and the greens were lukewarm too. Furthermore, everything was extra salty. Note to ownership and the chef, "BLACK PEOPLE HAVE HIGH INCIDENCES OF HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE! Low salt or no salt options should be considered.
My companion's chicken and waffles were pretty much the same. Hot, yet, salty chicken with lukewarm waffles. She did like the flavor of the waffles however.
After offering our honest assessment of service to the aforementioned young man, our bill was discounted by 15% and with the tip we added, it came out to over 60 dollars.
In closing, we arrived at Oohh's and Aahh's with great anticipation. We left with the...
