It pains me to leave this negative review because my husband and I used to love eating at the Rockaway, especially on Taco Tuesdays. Our last 2-3 experiences have been tainted by the same issue - not enough staff. The first few times we wrote it off to maybe the time of day we usually go (between 2-3pm), or maybe someone was out sick, but today was the final straw.
We arrived around 3 pm and there was one person working the bar and all the tables. There were only three "clean" tables, all the rest were covered with dirty dishes, as was the counter under the food prep area and the ends of the bar. The place was a filthy looking mess. The server was cheerful and trying to make the best of an impossible situation, but the cards were stacked against her. We made the mistake of taking a seat and ordering food anyway. We knew the order would take a while, and we were ok with that.
However, on my way to the restroom I saw our orders sitting under the heat lamps and the server walked past them, left them sitting and proceeded to take the order and chat with the people at the table behind us. My husband actually walked over to the cook to see if he could just take our plates to our table and didn't receive a straight answer.
Due to the nasty and chaotic condition of the place we actually walked out without getting our food. We would never normally do this, but these conditions were unacceptable.
If management is not willing to adequately staff the restaurant, then perhaps only the bar should be open for business, and the restaurant closed until it can be run cleanly and...
Read moreMy fiance and I went here last night for her birthday dinner. We have been looking forward to it for a few weeks. Although we haven't had the greatest experience in the past we thought we would give it another shot. Boy were we disappointed! We simply ordered two steak and fries dinners, we asked for steaks to be well done. It took us about 45 minutes to get our meal, which was not a problem but once the steak arrived they were both bloody!!! So needless to say our fries were bloody too. I let the waitress know about the problem, and her resolution was to slide our fries onto a clean plate and set them in front of us while she put our steak in the oven. I wasn't okay with eating the fries, so I assumed it would be all right to ask for new ones when my steak came out AGAIN. Well after sitting there about an hour and a half all together, our steak comes back out for the second time, and low and behold it still wasn't done. And not to mention the fries had been dipped back in the fryer and warmed back up. I ate around the outside of my steak what I could that was done, ate some of my fries but mostly ended up sending the majority of my order back. The waitress didn't offer to resolve the problem. I paid with $100 bill and then was treated with an attitude when I asked for my change. So much for giving this place one more try, that will be our...
Read moreI have gone to this restaurant for many years and have always had amazing customer service and great food. Tonight I decided to order delivery for the first time from this restaurant. I am so glad they have delivery because delivery service on the south end is a skim choice. The no contact delivery helped a lot with my social anxiety. I ordered grilled fish tacos, cheese garlic bread, cheesecake, and Shirley Temple. The fish tacos is a usual order when I go into Rockaway in person and didn't disappoint as usual. The sauce is amazing and the fish is perfect. The cheese garlic bread comes with a big cup of marinara sauce to dip in. The cheese was a perfect amount and paired well with the sauce. The cheesecake was honestly one of the best I've had. Compared to a few weeks ago I went to the Cheesecake Factory in Seattle and Rockaway's blew it out of the park. Of course the Shirley Temple was a Shirley Temple and I don't think anyone could ever mess that up. The portions are big and I have plenty more for another meal. The delivery person also...
