Update: Sunday, July 27, 2025 Is the 3rd time a charm? I dined at The Strand a 2nd time earlier this month and today came back with family of 4 for the brunch. We reserved the 11:30am spot and was among a few others. The buffet area was ready and had a good variety of options to include salad and fresh fruit, an omelet and waffle station. Be prepared for an automatic 20% service charge and $9 DC fee which according to DC law isn't considered the tip. The restaurant space is very nice and food is good. Please be encouraged to check it out for a drink at the bar or a nice sit down meal. On Friday, June 6th I picked up my Godmother and she suggested The Strand for lunch. From the street, the building facade is reminiscent of when it used to be a movie theater. Our server was very pleasant and personable. The sweet tea was peach flavored and the NC girl in me was asking where's the plain ole sweet tea. The cornbread was very good and 3 pieces to an order left us wanting more. I ordered the fried shrimp with fries and coleslaw...and I asked to try the collards. My Godmother got the fried chicken wings with collards and mashed potatoes. We both agreed the portions were very generous. I only ate 1/2 the large sized shrimp. In my opinion, the collard greens had too many stems and turkey meat. They served jumbo fried chicken wings and my Godmother didn't like them being so huge. I'll plan to try Strand again as we both said we'd order that cornbread (can ya'll make it 4pc) and something other than those extra jumbo wings. It's good to see a nice restaurant come to Ward 7 on Nannie Helen Burroughs. Give them a try!

My friend was craving a fish sandwich, so I did a quick Google search and found The Strand. After checking out the reviews and photos of the food and interior, we were sold! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a warm smile and a great personality—off to a great start! The staff was friendly, and the atmosphere felt welcoming. We decided to go for the brunch buffet, which was not only reasonably priced but also packed with variety. (Let’s hope they can keep those prices steady, but with this economy—good luck!) The buffet was both visually appealing and amazing for the tastebuds. There were so many options, and I went all in—oxtail, salmon, mac & cheese, shrimp & grits, and of course, my favorite—a fully loaded waffle. My eyes were definitely bigger than my stomach! I wanted an omelet too, but I just didn’t have the room. The music was on point, the staff was all smiles, and the service was top-tier. The Strand has only been open for five months, but I truly hope they keep up the great customer service and quality food. I also love that they offer private rooms, which makes it a perfect spot for gatherings. This place is a fantastic addition to the city, and I’m so happy to have found a soul food spot that isn’t lacking in flavor or heart. I’ll definitely be back—and bringing friends!

oh, where do I start? from Sauce dripping down the side of the cup to being gypped out of $4 dollars/very slow service /came in for happy hour with friends/We are from the city& live in this neighborhood we were very excited to check this place out…( thumbs down. The waiter was a young guy that wasn’t even old enough to serve drinks, but he was very good. I asked to speak to the manager because when I got my bill, they did not give me the happy hour price for the The two drinks I ordered …The Manager guy Informed me that he knows I was not there when my party was seated…. we were parking the car and using the restroom (while the other party in my group did not know what I wanted so when I got there, And waited to be serviced it was after the happy hour time(( I ordered what I wanted and told the Young waiter guy that I wanted to be charged for the happy hour price . He said he understood and it was fine. We had already been waiting forever for slow service so I figured We were even (they took long serving us )so why not honor the happy hour no matter what/So now you have lost a well paying customer for being tacky and cheap… Spoke to the manager about this” He said they look at the time Of when you place the order some BS….OK cool /Now let’s get into the food /the food was horrible. The mac & cheese taste like it was seafood in it and I did not order seafood mac & cheese ordered the crabcake and it never came out. They bought out crab dip. I thought it was a joke. I said I don’t want crab dip I ordered crabcake ??so I only paid for two drinks that was fine cause I sent the Mac back .. don’t worry never again will I step foot in this establishment and I would not recommend it to anyone /we ordered all types of food....
