I had passed this place a few times in the past and found myself in the area so I called and was greeted in Spanish! Authentic, check. And they were open for dine in, yes!
When I get there I was floored by the decor. If it weren't for COVID-19 I would definitely set up a dinner date party with friends here. Aside from the bright and cheerful setting, it was good to see the place following social distance guidelines.
So let me tell you how pleasantly surprised I was that they have the "fun meats" available that I like to eat. I usually go to SW Detroit, where there's is a large Latin community, to order Tamarindo de agua (tamarind-aide), lengua (beef tongue) and tripas (beef tripe) tacos, and menudo (beef tripe) soup. I was SO HAPPY that I could place this order here as well. And, yes, I ate all of it. 😁 Delicious 😋. I even ordered another taco dinner to go to bring to my hubs- carne asada (marinated beef) and al pastor (marinated pork), we'll see later how much he likes it.
Oh, and while eating my meal I noticed a steady stream of Latin folks come through. It's assuring to see this place is supported by the community. I almost forgot I wasn't in SW Detroit! I'll definitely be back when I'm in the area... I might even bring my laptop too since I saw an outlet next to the booth in the back. 🤓
Update: my hubs liked his take out and wants try this place out in person, so I can't wait to...
Read moreI am on some kind of Mexican food kick lately. I'm not sure what's gotten into me, but just go with it, okay?
I was starving and came here for lunch today and it was alright. Place is bright and colorful and my waitress was fabulous. I wasn't sure what to get, so I decided on the Huervos Rancheros. I wanted tacos, but saw this instead, so I ordered it.
While I waited for my food, I got some chips and salsa. Chips were good, salsa could've used a bit more kick to it.
When the food came out it had a green sauce instead of a red sauce. Fine, that's okay. But the sauce was super lime juice tasting to the point that by the time I finished it, I literally could only taste the overly limed salsa. It was a bit much for me. I think they also put to much of the salsa on as well, so it was kind of soupy.
the rice and beans were great, and I got tortilla's to go with my dish. I ended up putting my eggs, rice and beans in a tortilla and it was excellent. The tortillas saved the day!
The place has a great menu and even though it's out of my range, I got to try the place. I might try their tacos next time, but will pass on the Huervos Rancheros. Even though it was good, it had to much lime juice in the salsa and they put to much on to the point of it...
Read moreI don't normally write reviews but I felt compelled to say something about this restaurant. We were a party of 3 and when we walked in nobody greeted us and just looked at us as we were bothering them. The first thing that came out of their mouth was, "we are closing in one hour". I thought OK no problem we should be out of there in plenty of time. As one waitress was wiping the table I noticed our table was very sticky so I went to reach for a napkin and found none. No problem I went to another table and it was also very sticky. Was asked if we wanted something to drink and was told the fountain drinks are not very good by the waitress and no refills as it is posted on the machine. Next to the food. The salsa had the consistency of water and a hint of tomato flavor. Chips taste terrible like they were very old. We just could not eat them. The wait for the food was very long and meal was nothing to write home about. I went to wash up and there was no soap or towels or any other means to dry my hands. I really wanted to say something to someone as I am a business owner myself. I will not be back and for a 5 star authentic Mexican restaurant and superb service...
