This is a once and done experience for me. I know it is always full and has been since it opened. So my curiosity got the best of me wanting to know what it is they were doing to attract all these customers. I must admit that after eating here one time, I still don't know what the attraction is. My best guess is the menu pulled me in but everything else pushed me away. Portions on the small side, prices are average for a diner. New seating and tables it appears but the rest of the decor is slapped together with what seems like whatever was on sale at the hardware store. It doesn't have a feeling of being completed on the inside. Also, learn to paint inside the lines. The floor was positively littered with paper, dirt and dropped food pieces, probably the reason for the flies buzzing around our table. Even the waitress commented how "pesky" they are...Hint (then do something about it if you know they're an issue). Not thrilled with the cooler in the open that is holding my pre-made salad, stacked one on top of the other. That explains my flat plate of lettuce. Also in that cooler are other items that don't belong there or in the open, like silver kitchen storage containers, gallons of iced tea to pour into cups and other things that just needed a home. Things need to be kept where they belong and behind closed doors, not just a "this is good enough" approach. It just looks sloppy. It gets 2 stars because our waitress was ok and I do see potential. But it has that feeling that the owner is done renovating and just going to go with what he has. I can't blame him...why spend the money on improvements when your customers are content to eat there, even in the condition that it's in. Not me though. Lots of restaurants in the area who will take my money. Long Run Diner isn't one of them. Sorry, I really wanted to...
Read moreUpdate: Second time there and still satisfied! The Mac n Cheese, (Who needs an entire section of menu for this pasta? Haven does!!), delicious! Wow! My friend ordered the original version and it was phenomenal. I ordered the chicken tenders, very tasty. Our server was wonderful! We will continue to eat here when traveling through this area! We travel around Pa a great deal, love stopping at little diners for some tasty meals. We did a search for diners near where we were going and found Haven. We were not sure how this would go, as the reviews are all over the place, but the parking lot was fairly full so, how bad could it be? The ambience is that of an older diner, red seated booths, extra seating in the rear of the establishment. The bathroom was clean, had soap and towels. I add that note because it's shocking how many diners have filthy bathrooms and no soap in the dispensers. That's pretty much a reason not to return for me. How would the staff wash their hands??
The service was fast, the servers were very friendly, and funny!
We both ordered the patty melt and an up-charge of fries. Our meals came up fairly quickly. The patty melt sandwich was huge. The beef patty was done to perfection and was a nice size, poking out of the bread. It was DELICIOUS, nice amount of cheese and onions, nice crispy bread. We both agreed that it was one of the best melts we ever ate. The fries were hot, ample, but not anything special. When we come through next time, I will just stay with the chips that come with the sandwich. The drink prices are pretty high. Stick with water if possible. All in all it was a tasty meal with great service. We will...
Read moreI have eaten here four times. It seems to change decor and management every time I go.
I will say they do a pretty solid job on breakfast food. But today I stopped in for lunch and was pretty disappointed.
Yet again the place has been redesigned. The colors are good but the execution is poor. The walls were spray painted deep red and you can see both the drips and the oversprayed edges where it meets the white. And I mean it's very evident. I was seated at a booth with a tiled mirror opposite end of me and the tiles had cracks and breaks on them. The mirrors also had lots of red paint splatters. I am not trying to be mean but it's just unsettling to look at red splatters and drips all over broken mirrors.
Even though I already know that very few places around here made good Reubens I decided to order one here. And again I experienced the normal problem... not enough meat. Two slices of corn beef. There was more saurkrait than meat. You can see the picture I added. I know this meat isn't like gold, I do not know why it's treated like a commodity. And for $10 (menu price without the fries) it should certainly get a few more slices. It was mostly a saurkrait sandwich, so I took some off to make the sandwich a bit more balanced.
All of the employees are great though and they do try their best. I was delighted to witness one of them refill the ketchup at my table. Years ago when I first went here the ketchup was visibly spoiled in the container. So, was very happy to see these kind of details attended to.
I recommend going here for breakfast. But in general I don't think I will be back otherwise. But I wish them...
