Steve's Coney Island — Restaurant in Wayne

HELLO, i am writing this review because i feel is important that people know what happened to me, im not bashing the restaurant because the food is really good, very nice workers, but as for the management, the owners... its horrible, Therefore i am going to share the few times that ive been here, my experiences. ok so, i am allergic to tomatoes i always ask for a salad with just the lettuce and the cucumbers and the cheese, note: this salad comes with boiled eggs, tomatoes, and what not. so i asked for onions instead and got charged 1 dollar, i think this is kind of absurd given the fact that i basically switched the tomatoes and the boiled eggs, for plain onions, however they dont do substitutions, which is fine. next, i went in to order the same salad, they made a mistake and put the tomatoes in it, well, the old man, the owner... he takes my salad to the back (but i can still see him from around the corner) and starts handling my food with his dirty hands and removing the tomatoes!! he had just handled the cash!!! this is not only a really nasty thing to do, very unsanitary.. and very (money'hungry?) thing to do? i mean if im allergic, simply removing the tomatoes is not going to cut it, im sorry. i asked for a refund and left. the next time i stopped by, i was sick, i ordered their chicken noodle soup, well, it was around 9am and they reached into the hotwell and filled my bowl, took it to the back and microwaved it. it came up with a very fake yellowish color. that gave me the impression that they keep the soup in the hotwell overnight which is disgusting and again, unsanitary. well, this bring me to my most recent issue. i ordered breakfast for a change, i dont eat eggs, so i simply ordered hash browns with cheese and sausage and bacon with toast... i founf a hair in my food, they kindly stated that if i brought the food back, i could have it remade. i honestly dont have time but i was just calling them to make them aware of the situation. well, two days later, which is today... 8/9/2018 i ordered the same exact thing, this time with melted cheese, well, to my surprise... i found a hair AGAIN!! this time i thought it was some type of joke... so i called them up and told them my name, and that again i had found a hair... the waitress listened but afterward just said.. "ok, hold on" and on the background, i heard her say "it's karina, she says she has another hair in her food"... so the old lady came up to the phone... im guessing the owners wife.. she doesn't say "hello", she starts screaming and asking "How come you're the only one that says that they're is a hair in your food, nobody ever complains"! like are you kidding me??"... first of, i didn't want a refund, but since she had that attitude it had made me second guess my options when eating out... i just feel it was very poor handled and extremely rude coming from an owner... you're supposed to keep the business happy, not scold them. eew, just eeww. my co-workers saw the hair and they all stated that they will never eat there again.. and we are an important company.. oh well... seriously, if you can.. pick another spot....

Great food. My family & I have tried most of the menu, even the steak. Cant complain about anything. Some of the our favorites are the chicken lemon rice soup (available on Sat) Recently I have started ordering the chicken lemon rice and a few slices of garlic toast. Scoop the soup on the toast with each bite, awesome combo. The chicken alfredo & the shrimp alfredo is some of the best I have ever had, & not just for a Cony Island. The mostacholi dinner comes with a generous amount of melted mozzarella on top and enough for two. Our 2 kids cant finish it.

The breakfast menu is great too. I love to get the Big breakfast and add a half order of pancakes. I cant eat it all, but its all so tasty I cant help myself. My girlfriend loves the waffles.

I can honestly say that its some of the best servers anywhere. As soon as we walk in we are greeted like family. And not just because we frequently dine there. This used to be one of my favorite spots to eat at, I gave them a lot of business! However once the price gouging started everything went downhill. Their prices are absolutely ridiculous for a Coney island! Last time I ordered take out I ordered 2 sandwiches and 2 fries, very simple, my total was $33! But here's the kicker, after looking at the menu and adding up the prices and tax of what I bought once I got home (price seemed beyond unreasonable for what I ordered) my total should have only been $26, so the cashier cheated me out of $7 on top of an already outrageous bill for what we got! I Also put tip money in the tip bucket before realizing they scammed me. So watch your bill, they are adding money into them hoping people won't notice! I will never eat here again after this, if you have to resort to scamming your customers out of money after already hiking your prices up to insane amounts then you don't deserve...
