Almost every time I come to this location there is a problem. Today 5/10/23 I ordered the same drink that I typically get however it was grainy and unblended. I asked for a refund so I could go to another tropical smoothie but was told it would take 1-2 days. Since I didn’t want to pay for the same thing twice I opted for them to just remake the smoothie. The young man who remade it was polite and helpful but it was still extremely grainy. The coffee grains were so big it looked like chia seeds. Still unsatisfied with the drink I told them to just refund the order. An older black man who I assume is the owner or manager came from the back and told me this is how the drink comes. I told him I’ve had this drink several times and it’s never looked like this. He then told me he’ll just refund it. He had a terrible attitude and told the employee to dump it out like I was trying to get a free drink. But the drink was so bad I wouldn’t have even given it to a dog. I had previously thrown out the first drink in front of the staff. The owner or manager walked to the back visibly upset. I then asked the employee for a receipt of the refund and he said it could not be issued they had to do it on there end. So now im out of a drink and have no way of proving that I was supposed to be issued a refund. I’ve been to this location several times and each interaction with the owner or manager has been unpleasant. I’m not looking for a free drink or trying to give anyone a difficult time but if i’m spending $9.50 on a drink I expect it to be correct especially when other locations make that same drink with no problem. I would call corporate but I doubt that would do any good because I believe the older man is the owner. He seems like he hates his job & is miserable. Read moreI had a very troubling experience at this Tropical Smoothie on October 15, 2024. I came in to grab lunch on my break from work I headed towards the restroom to relieve myself. I will stop by an African-American gentleman probably 40-ish who told me I could not use their bathroom. I immediately asked him if there was anything wrong with the bathrooms and his reply was no, but you can't use them. I expressed to him that after I finish the bathroom plans to order to sit down and enjoy my lunch. But I couldn't hold my pee anymore because I'm pregnant. He said that I did not have permission to use their bathroom and it was at his discretion and he didn't have to let anyone use the bathroom. There were other pedestrians in the lobby of none African-American descent that were freely using the bathroom and enjoying their lunches. I asked to speak to the manager. The African-American man told me that he was the manager. I asked him for his name. He refused to give me his name or employee ID number. He also refused to give me the store number and told me that everything that I needed I needed to know could be found online. I expressed to him that I was pregnant and press for time because my lunch break is only 30 minutes and I really just needed to use the bathroom and plan on ordering lunch. He continue to refuse to give me access to the restroom. Even though the restroom was working fine and there were no signs restricting its use. he was sitting with the older white man and I honestly felt like he was trying to impress him he kept looking at him for reassurance every time I said anything to him with a stupid smirk on his face. I felt completely humiliated. It was extremely embarrassing. Read moreUPDATE So the customer service is definitely better, but they still cannot make a good smoothie, with the right consistency & texture! I just don’t get it……. It taste like a juicy cup of sugar. More ice is probably the solution to making a better smoothie! They also don’t have plant-based options, and that’s important in 2024, because it’s lots of vegetarian/vegan people like myself who would be willing to spend more money there if those options were available. So I will be giving more stars because the customer service is better.
So I use to come here on a regular basis, due to the convenience after work, but the inability of making a great textured smoothie, poor customer service, and attitudes I just can’t do it anymore. Customer service will make or break your entire business, and these young girls need to be trained on how to greet customers and have a smile. I went in today for an employee to have a stare-off with me, as if it was my job to ask her how she is today and what I want. Good customer service is welcoming customers and asking how you can help them. I have been there asking an employee a question about an item and she just walked away. My smoothies are never the right consistency now. I’m just over this place at this point. The Romulus store is much better. The sad part about it all is that I want to support a black business, and the owners are kind. I just dont understand why the young ladies that they hire are so rude and nasty. It’s literally one young lady there that usually works mornings that is nice.
