High level summary – steak was delicious but poor service makes the trip to any other steakhouse worth it.

My husband and I had a reservation for 6:30PM on a Saturday. We were celebrating a special occasion and came dressed business casual. No hostess or reservation book open at the front desk. Just a handful of pretentious waiters slouching at the station and sizing you up as you walk in. We mentioned that we had reservations but it fell to deaf ears. We were offered the 2 worst tables in the house. One 2-top closest to the crowded entrance and another very small 2-top awkwardly placed in the middle of the serving traffic. We took the awkward one over keeping our jackets on throughout dinner. However, we noticed that almost all the other 4-tops were seated with 2 people. When our waiter arrived, we inquired if we could move to one of two open 4-tops around us. We were told that those were reservations to which we reminded him we had. He stepped away momentarily and came back with a halfhearted apology that it was not possible. We watched as future couples that arrived were seated at 4-tops. Still no hostess or reservation book in sight.
Even though it is BYOB (which is fantastic), we chose not to drink that night but had to ask a waiter to pull the wine glasses to give us some more room on the already tiny table. We also had to stop another waiter halfway through dinner to refill our water. Unacceptable.
Meals come with bread, complimentary salad, side of fried onions and homemade schlag (whipped cream) and strawberries. The only reason this review is getting any stars is the food. The bread, though not very visually appealing, was light and soft with just enough chew. But the butter was straight from the fridge and tore through it as soon as you tried to spread it. The salad was nice, simple yet effective. We ordered the porterhouse for 2 and were not disappointed. Great flavor and presentation. We split a baked potato that was a little too simple for our taste (just came plain with a side of sour cream) but the addition of the fried onions on the side helped.
Then the nonsense really picked up. We were only around 45 minutes into our reservation and the hustling out the door began. When asked if we were done, I kindly said, “No but almost” with a smile and was returned with a disgusted look from the waiter. I was looking forward to the schlag as I love homemade whipped cream but sadly it never came. I watched a couple near us receive it but we were offered only a dessert menu. When we declined ordering a specific dessert, the check was promptly dropped on our table.
Towards the end, a woman in a plaid shirt showed up at the front (she is mentioned in other reviews) but was seemingly only concerned with certain guests. I can only imagine that she was probably the owner, part owner or manager of sorts but clearly not interested in everyone’s experience.
Finally and I hate that I even have to say this out loud but it was mentioned in other reviews so I feel that our experience is not isolated. We’re an interracial couple and one of us is significantly browner than the other, which in today’s world should be a moot point. But in certain places, you can’t help but feel it’s not. When looking around, it was painfully obvious that both employee and clientele diversity is not a goal of the establishment but the treatment we received only furthered the horrible possibility that it might have been a factor. That’s all I can say on the matter but looking for suggestions on other steakhouses to try. And I don’t know this Peter Luger fella, but this place is...
Read moreWhen we sat down there was nobody in the place it was empty. It smelled like mold. The waitress came by with such a bad look on her face I thought she was having a bad day so I tried to get her to laugh and asked her what would she order if we were on a date and the attitude only got worse from there wow. She has no sense of humor. She suggested the crab cakes which was the most expensive thing on the appetizers. She then suggested Oysters Rockefeller and when she told us how they were made I simply said that's not Oysters Rockefeller because I've had them all over and I make them myself, she looked at me with an attitude again and said whatever and walked away. She had a heavy accent so I asked her if she was Polish because I'm Polish she said Albanian in a very rude and condescending manner. We had already got a bottle of Pellegrino and our wine was opened so my friend through $20 on the table which I told him not to because she's not worth $1 and he insisted. I corked up the bottle and we couldn't leave fast enough. On top of that the place smelled like you can't even imagine. Like a really bad stench. If you don't believe me just read the prior one-star review below mine. It was like somebody died in there. I would stay far away from this place just because of the waitress and her bad attitude and the disgusting odor. I found out the waitress actually owns the place or at least poses as if she does. She's probably the cook as well as who the hell would want to work for someone like that. If I were her I would hire a waitress with a good attitude and a pleasant demeanor and a good sense of humor who smiles when greeting the customers.
PS: The prices are way out of control I mean wacked out beyond belief. Steak for two is $140 and you can't even order a steak for one in that cut. You have to order some other inferior steak they have instead of the wannabe famous Peter Lugers type they serve for 2, 3 and 4. Thank God I walked out of there. It would have been $500 for garbage. No wonder the place was empty. They'll be out of business soon guaranteed....
Read moreIt was absolutely horrible. For starters we get there and the place looks decent . I use the rest room and it is messey and really hot to the point im starting to sweat, I go back out to the table and see are whole party is sweating . We mention it to the staff and they say , "this is how it gets at night we will try to make it cooler.
The food was ordered and came out appetizers bacon strips and calamari . To be fair calamari was good. The bacon was litterally burnt charcoal black . I couldn't be leave they severed it. The main meals came out and all the steak were over cooked and for some reason they decided to cut everybody's steak for them whitch was really odd . The sides were forgotten and brought out at the end when everybody was finished with the steak. They brought one plate of onion rings for 9 people and we had to ask if they can bring out more for the other side of the table .
The waiters and waitresses are sweating all over the place and I watched a drop of sweat fall onto are table as they picked up glass wear . Now quality of food Seemed decent but the cook was a amature and completely just destroyed the food and night .
Desert was ok probably the most decent part of the night do to the simple fact it was a celebration of the night ending and we can get out of are sweat drenched clothes ..
We must of have mentioned the temperature to them over 6 times and they showed no care at all .. Other tables wear sweating just as bad .
So upset with this place . They should be ashamed of the environment they have and claim to be a high end...
