Stone House Tavern — Restaurant in Waynesville

Came here tonight for my boyfriend’s birthday. We had a party of 8, including family from out of town, grandparents, and children. When our server [KATERINA] first greeted us, she seemed displeased that she had to serve us, instead of viewing it as a large tab, which would generally mean a larger tip. She was impatient in taking our drink orders, and slow in delivering the beverages. She had no suggestions on which items were favorites, and seemed annoyed that a large party needed a few extra minutes to ensure everyone in attendance was ready to order. We asked for an appetizer to hold us over, as a few of us hadn’t eaten yet in the day. At this point in time, she should have suggested we get two or three to share across the large table. Our small appetizer came, with only 4 plates, so everyone had to share appetizer plates, as well as divvy up the small amount of pretzels. She never once checked in on us while we snacked to see if we wanted anything else. When she finally took our orders, most of us got burgers. She never once asked how we’d prefer to have them cooked, nor did she mention that they would come out well done and dry. When wings were ordered, she asked all the right questions: which sauce(s), breaded or naked, ranch or bleu cheese, and even whether the person we were there to celebrate wanted celery with his wings. He told her his sauces, that he’d like the wings naked, and that he wanted a side of ranch. He also requested a side salad, which would normally come out first. She never asked about when he would like his salad. Fast forward an hour, and we haven’t seen her since she brought out the single order of pretzels and a single refill for the whole table. The food all came out separately, about ten minutes from the first plate to the last plate, so by the time the last burger and the wings were brought out, the meals brought out first were practically finished. The side salad that was supposed to come out before the meals hasn’t made it to the table, so he mentioned that he didn’t really want it anymore since it was intended to be a precursor to the meal, not an afterthought like dessert. When he told the server that he didn’t want the salad anymore, she immediately scoffed and said that it was already made. Regardless of the fact that it was made, it was never brought to the table, and the additional attitude was unnecessary and uncalled for. The birthday boy took a single bite of his wings to realize that they were in fact breaded, which he had specified was not what he wanted. We waited around for another 25 minutes before we went looking for her since she had not come back at all to check how things were tasting or if everything had even come out, at which point, she was informed, very politely, that he had asked for naked wings, to which she replied that he didn’t ask for naked wings, although everyone at the table had heard him specify that. She asked if he wanted new wings or if he’d eat the ones he already had, so he told her he doesn’t like breaded wings. She said she would take them back, but didn’t make any movement to remove them from the table, instead she scoffed, rolled her eyes, and stormed off. Another 20 minutes later, she came back asking if we were ready for the cake for the birthday boy. Like, no? The birthday boy didn’t even get to eat… We then requested for the wings to be packaged to-go, as we had already been sitting there for two hours. We got the tab, and the infamous side salad we never received was still present, so we brought that to her attention, and she begrudgingly said she’d remove it from the tab with another eye roll. The food that was correct was pretty good, but the attitude we received from Katerina on a night that was supposed to be a celebration was rude, dismissive, and utterly unacceptable.

Edited to add: the wings we got to go were still not prepared correctly. They’re supposed to be destroyer mixed with bbq, and we got mild. I worked 10 years in the service industry, most recently here at StoneHouse. This entire experience was...

I came here last night with a party of 10 people to celebrate a family members 30th birthday. We arrived around 7:15 and had a few drinks as we have at this establishment many time before. Around 10pm our waitress comes up to us and says the manager wanted her to ask if we needed some water. She then stated that we are being "kind of loud and our tabs were getting pretty high". At that point we look around and see a couple that had been at the bar drinking since before our party arrived and another group of people who are yelling and hanging off of one another at the bar. I'm not sure why we were singled out at this establishment. After being offended by the general statement, she asked if we wanted to speak with the manager, and of course, we did. After 30 minutes the manager was nowhere to be found at a "tavern" where they had a whopping 4 groups of people eating and drinking. When the waitress comes back by we asked for the manager again and she finally surfaces. She also told us the same story and said we made another couple leave because we were being loud... At a bar. She proceeded to tell us that Stonehouse Tavern is a resturaunt with a bar, not a bar. Even the google discription calls it a pub, it has tavern in the name, and there are cold beer signage out front. We pay our $300-400 tab, between 10 people, 3 of which had no drinks at all. As soon as we get outside the local police department pulls in. At this point we are all in absolute shock considering we have been here many times, been served much more alcohol, and had tons of better experiences with this place. Nothing ends up happening with the police other than them following us around menacingly as we travel to a friends apartment 2 blocks up the road. I'm not sure if the staff was having a bad night there, maybe they thought we weren't going to pay our tabs, maybe the manager had a hot date after midnight she needed to get to. I'm not sure what was going on but I honestly wont be going back, ever. This night was an absolute joke and this is how a someones 30th birthday celebration will be remembered. This place has tons of great reviews but honestly, its a dump. If you plan on having drinks, don't do it here.

As you can see the ownership agreed with everything in the review minus the police. I think "we're sorry you didn't enjoy your experience" is a little lacklustre considering everyone was loud at the establishment watching final 4 basketball games....

Staff is absolutely rude! The manger is rude when asked nicely about a food update and a missing item. Then a waitress become EXTREMELY hostile and nasty when I was waiting at the bar for a refill and was two close to the waitress station due to no where else to stand. Bartender already acknowledged me and was my waitress and was slammed so I get it. The blonde braided pigtail waitress suddenly appears across the restaurant hollering at me “you need to sit down come on I have your refills.” To the point so many looked she in between went to the Hostess and talked loudly about me to the point my table and others heard. I asked her for the bill and boxes because I was done after she spoke to me and became hostile. The bartender who was super sweet came over with our check. At the same time blonde braides hides in the kitchen talking crap and sends a male out to ask if we need our checks while she stands and watches from the door. Mean time bartender brings our paid bills back and he says never mind. We were told she is known for this aggressive and hostile behavior especially when they are busy and she won’t stop until the table it gone. Mind blown! How do you run a business with people like this. I was fine with the busy but at least get the bartenders help and don’t expect them to run tables and a bar and DORA all during a event and only 2! I was trying to help by simply taking my cups there and she was okay with it but Braides decided she was going to be nasty, confrontational, and continue to press buttons. I will send this to the owners and more. Also, what manger gets mad and says well we have 3 screens of order I don’t know I guess I can check your food. But magically food for 6 people all appeared in 2 mins. There was no runners and that’s fine. Just had to say sorry we are busy but I’m happy to check. He was so mad when our food was missing our pickles and said someone stole them you will have to wait while we make more.
