My friend suggested that for a change we should eat at Village Family Restaurant. Once seated our server bragged that their prices were cheaper and portions larger than Cobblestone Village CafĆ© & Interiors. My friend asked our server to tell her what was in the Italian Chicken Salad, but even though it had been on the entire month of July, she could not recall. After I read the ingredients (a blend of romaine and iceberg lettuce, dried cranberries, tomatoes, cheddar cheese, shredded Italian chicken, and topped with crispy noodles) she chose the spinach salad, while I opted for the special. However, after an exceptionally long wait (especially for two oāclock!) I received my salad that seemed to be almost entirely iceburg lettuce, and had over-cooked/limp pasta! Our server came back only once during our meal, at which time I asked for a menu and confirmed that my memory was consistent with the menuās description and did not include pasta. When I asked our server about the discrepancy, she said that since the specials are āonlyā on the menu for one month that no one can remember whatās in themāeven the cooks! Note: While writing this review I called up their website and was surprised to see that their version of the contents of the Italian Chicken Salad does include pastaāso I apparently, not even the owners are sure what goes in this dish! Other comments about our salads: ļ¼ Both overfilled the too-small bowls, and thus there was no room to mix the layered Italian salad together; ļ¼ The poppy-seed dressing was very thick, but also tasty; ļ¼ The āhotā bacon dressing was tasty but served at room temperature; ļ¼ Both came with large, soft bread sticks, and the spinach salad also arrived with croutons. That might be too many carbs for a person choosing a salad; ļ¼ As you can see in the pictures, the chicken was supposed to be shredded, but actually was served in very large chunksāmuch more than one mouthful. However, the picture on their website actually did show chunks of chicken. Misc. Comments: ļ¼ Two salads and two iced teas cost $25, so their price is not remarkably lower than the Cobblestone Village CafĆ©; ļ¼ Conversely, this restaurant is remarkably louder and their kitschy dĆ©cor is much less visually appealing; ļ¼ There are only two one-person bathrooms and one must wait in the hallway in between the bustling kitchen and stock room in which staff regularly zoom past with their hands full; ļ¼ The walls surrounding the restrooms are plastered with tacky bumper stickers; ļ¼ The ladies room was very, very cold and our server indicated that it has been that way since their inception; ļ¼ On a plus side, they do offer gluten-free items. However, had I chosen the Italian Chicken Salad because I was gluten intolerance, it would have been unacceptable. Further, since our server did not return until my salad was half gone, it would have been a long wait with an untouched meal. Bottom Line: There are too many other excellent choices on the same street to return to this very mediocre restaurant againāespecially given how long we had to wait for our food, given that it was well past the lunch hour. Just donāt be fooled by the fact that two of your choices have the word...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis place was quaint, affordable, and the food was great! Every member of staff we interacted with was very friendly and courteous. We only waited 10-15 mins to be seated. We had a party of four and someone came and took our drink orders right away. They have Pepsi products for those wondering. The menu had several options for a variety of preferences. We placed our order when our drinks came and the food was brought out rather quickly for a 1pm-ish steady lunchtime. I ordered their chicken and dumplings meal and it was delicious. Best of all, it wasn't overpriced as so many places are these days.
The restaurant offered booth seating and tables with chairs. There was room for wheelchairs and strollers. I did not visit the restrooms to report on those.
After your meal, you take your check to the register and pay. There are candies and cookies available near the register so if you have little ones with you be ready to be asked! š I tried a chocolate chip cookie on the way out and it too was amazing!
I think the only overly critical thing someone could say would be that the restaurant is outdated. But if that is your biggest concern you are missing out on the best part. To each their own. I found it very cozy. Next time we're shopping in this area, I would love to go back to Village Family Restaurant and try something else...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOn our way to Brimstone Haunt and was looking for a great place to eat. This was the 1st to come up, and after reading the reviews, knew we had to stop here. First thing, ordered Coke's and they were horrible. Waitress said it was not enough ice! Ice in the "pop" machine, ok well since that didnt make sense, maybe they need to clean the lines in the ice maker since they can develope mold. Awful taste, like the pop had been left out overnight, flat! 2nd, hamburger was dry (was NOT) asked how we wanted it cooked, and onion rings were over cooked and dry. Taco salad was bland. Last but not least, desserts...had cherry pie, and it was "doughy", rhubarb pie was a snotty greenish color and bland, and last, apple cobbler warmed with a scoop of ice cream...found a HAIR in it, after eating over half of it. Waitress was snide, and eyes rolled. Couldnt believe her attitude. Took all the desserts off the bill, but so what, a little to late for redemption. Next time in Waynesville, DEFINITELY WONT BE RETURNING TO THIS "FAMILY" RESTAURANT. YUCK, YUCK, AND YUCK!!! Only giving this 1 star because you cant give...
