As local residents my wife and I have been to the Bitter End several times as we try our best to "shop locally" and be able to provide educated opinions regarding where to go and do to visiting friends and tourists we bump into. While the Bitter End displays $$ that may be for one person, as we have never spent less than $$$ as a couple, including tip, and a few times we have still left hungry. The apps, food, beer and wine are standard fare and though we have always been served excellent food, the same or better food with larger portions at a cheaper price can be found most anywhere locally. The beer list is limited and expensive, as is the wine, the service has always been top notch, and the staff always attentive and pleasant. Seating is limited and somewhat tight inside, so we would not recommend the Bitter End as a family style eatery, as it is best suited for 2-4 people, in our opinion. A BIG Bitter End beny is that it is a reasonably quiet place (though we have encountered some rude, loud types) without the blaring tv's and loud crowds you might encounter at other local establishments, especially May -- September. In our opinion, best for a couple looking for a quiet time out away from the maddening crowd, but anticipate $$$. Hope this helps and...
Read moreBartenders are great! Unfortunately, if I could, I would give zero stars for the management of this place. Got to the restaurant at ~5:45PM tonight. We knew there would be a wait and were ready for it. Spent $150 at the bar, which again was fantastic. We waited an hour and twenty minutes into the “worst case scenario” of the 1.5 hour wait to find the hostess cancelled our place on the waitlist (9 people, 5 being children). Went up to address the issue and was told we were the next in line and it was a mistake. Waited an additional 40 minutes and was still not seated with no idea of how long the additional wait would be. Hostess, who didn’t care, offered to bring a manager over. I spoke with the manager and she also clearly didn’t care. She told me she was “doing the best she could to seat us” and the hostess was a temp. This could have ended a bunch of different ways such as offering to split our party to seat us next or sending so apps for the kids. Instead, my daughter left crying because she just wanted to be able to eat at 8PM. Avoid this place and their...
Read moreWe went Sunday afternoon. I started with the clam chowder. Surprisingly it was just okay. I'd actually had a clam chowder earlier in the day at Bedford Village Inn and that was far superior. It was pretty thick. There was a lot of cornstarch in the chowder because it was too thick. Flavor was ok. Ernie had the soup of the day which was very good. For or mains, I had the fried clams which were some of the best I've had actually had in the last couple of years. Ernie Had the temporary fish and chips which was excellent. Ann had the Haddock, what she thought was excellent. Richard had the seafood stew. there was plenty of seafood in it but it needed definitely some kind of an herb seasoning. If not for the rather bland taste, it would have been excellent dinner. For dessert Ernie decided to have the blueberry pie, which was actually more of a blueberry muffin when you really got down to it. Flavor-wise it was excellent. Overall a good meal at a reasonable price. The place is quite popular because it was packed when...
