This review needs to be set within the context of a first time luncheon diner who doesnât need to rush back to work but who needs to get back within a productive timeframe , so...
Absolutely excellent food! Giant, surprisingly so, portions (we WAY iverordered but on the bright side, there will be plenty of leftovers for later) and everything is prepared deliciously. The food presentation was impressive. It had an aesthetic attention to detail that was well above what would have been expected based on the otherwise utilitarian appearance of the dining room and the aged and lightly neglected strip mall location it occupies. The quality of the food could bear a much higher price in finer digs, but Iâm glad it is where it is as long as the customer traffic can continue to sustain it. We were there for lunch and there were only a handful of customers we saw. Itâs not really located in a lunch traffic area though, so not surprising. I hope they stand the test of time since slow lunche traffic usually indicates hard times in the restaurant biz.
The waitress was very cordial and helpful on explaining the menu. She had a great repetitious under-breath chant-style of remembering the order as there is no writing down of the order. The pacing of lunch service was very much slower than would be wanted for most luncheon diners. If you want a lunch of 45 minutes or less you will need to press the issue of stepping through the meal more quickly than the normal pacing than seems the standard for this location. Itâs suggested the following approach be taken. 1. Familiarize yourself with the menu BEFORE going there. 2. Be quick to let the server know you want to order when you arrive, even if it means going to the front counter to request the expedited service. 3. When finished, if you need to-go containers, notice they are self serve, so you donât need to ask the server. 4. When ready to pay, the transaction is done at the register, not the table, so even though itâs table service the payment occurs at the register. We waited 10 minutes to get the servers attention for the check then after saying that sheâd get it, she seemed to forget within moments and lounged by the register looking into the kitchen and chatted with the kitchen staff. When I approached the counter and got her attention after a minute she pulled up the bill in seconds and I was able to pay within less than an additional minute. So maybe a bit of a confusion on both our parts...I guess.
The restrooms were clean with the soap dispenser full and motion sensor paper towels. That is a big plus for a past restaurateur and corporate food safety director. I feel better when I know the employees have the tools to wash there hands adequately.
The only drawback for our preferences (prefer to drink quite a bit of beverage with meals) was that there were no fountain drinks or tap water available. Easy fix is to just bring your own drinks in or just order your food (as iâll do in the future) for carry out. I really canât stand to eat-in at places that only offer canned drinks. $1.49 for a 12 ounce can is a money grab, an affront to the wallet, an unfortunate projection of instability/uncertainty of the longevity (possibly?) of the location as well as an implicit signal that take-out orders are preferred over dine-in ones.
I will be coming back frequently based on my experience. I wish I had checked this place out looooong ago as the food is really top notch. Now that I understand the dynamics of the food and the service I hope this will be one of my ongoing favorites.
Thank you , Q barbe Q , for being a new, delicious, conveniently located addition to my local...
Read moreFrom a Lebanese perspective, I would give this restaurant a 6.5 or 7 out of 10. The food wasnât bad, but could definitely be better. We ordered the hummus (2/10- needs salt and lemon juice, it was super plain and opaque in taste), the garlic sauce (6/10), kefta platter (kefta was GREAT, but yellow rice was strange tasting, and also came with garlic sauce and hummus). We also ordered the chicken shawarma, which was small and lacking vegetables. I would give the chicken shawarma a 6 out of 10. It was nothing like a Lebanese shawarma or Turkish shawarma, but edible. The zataar on top was a strange touch, but it was small overall and lacking vegetables (more pickles, tomatoâs, lettuce, cabbage, etc). The shawarma (or wrap) also came with fries which were good! We also ordered the falafel which was pretty good (Iâd give it an 8.5/10). Iâm very picky about falafel, so Iâm very happy this place had a good falafel. Add some salt to it once at your table, though!
If youâre in the west Chester area, a lot of people will recommend Aladdinâs for Mediterranean cuisine, but this place, Q BARBE Q, blows Aladdinâs out of the water. Aladdinâs was absolutely terrible, nothing at all like middle eastern food, and I would not recommend going there. In this northern area of Cincy, this place is about as good as itâs going to get for middle eastern food.
Iâd give it a solid 7.5/10 stars and would recommend going.
Next time Iâll be sticking to the falafel, maybe even the falafel shawarma (wrap), garlic sauce,...
Read moreStaff lied about replacing burnt food. About three weeks ago my wife ordered a Family Q platter from this place, as we have done many times in the past. I arrived at the restaurant, picked up my food and drove home, I live about 25 minutes away. When i got to the house and opened up the platter it was burned on both sides, my wife immediately called the restaurant, she spoke to the manager, who asked we send them pictures of the burnt food, so she did send them pictures, at that time the manager committed to making a replacement platter for free, I told him I wasnât driving one hour again, it would be sometime later I will come get the platter, he agreed. Now when my wife ordered the platter and told them we would be picking it up, they said sure, when we arrived to pick it up , the manager completely shifted statements, and said, I am only giving a free sandwich , you have to pay for the rest.
This bothers me a lot if he had told me that any replacement food will have to cost. I would have drove back regardless of the long time and would have brought the Burnt food back and told them to make me a fresh platter, but the manager insisted at that time that he would give me a free replacement platter And now three weeks later when I went there to get it, he refused.
This rubs me in the worst way possible. to say something and then completely change your tone later is extremely deceiving and dishonest.
Shame on the manager for his...
