Finally tried the new location on Ogden & Washtenaw, it was not busy at all and the food and cafe de olla ☕️ tastes just as good as the Catedral in Little Village😋 #lacatedral#newlocation#comidamexicana#foodie#latinafoodie#chicagofoodie#foodblogger#chicagorestaurant#fyp#foryou#foryoupage#parati#latinacontentcreator

I went for lunch with my mom & my son. “La Cátedra” the decoration lines up with its name. The paintings are colorful & vivid. I specially like the Michael Angelo, on the first floor ceiling it’s beautiful. And the many religious statues and paintings makes you feel you are stepping into la catedral of Mexico City. I must say, I was a bit disappointed with their food. I ordered chicken red sauce enchiladas. But the enchiladas were saggy and tasted more like chilaquiles. I would of like them crispy. My son ordered the turkey club, the sandwich was ok, but the pickle was very sad and out of date. My mother ordered the chicken fajitas, it was a generous portion. And she said, it had a good tasted. The horchata was very good. The agua de agua de jamaica, was also good. The cafe de la olla didn’t disappointed me. I must say, I never seen a menu that didn’t listed the prices of the items in the menu. The place is big 2 floors, it’s always busy. Parking, well it’s complicated, the near by streets are residential and I was told that I can park by 26th street. Which is about a block away. In front of the restaurant, on the entire block its no parking due to “loading zone” in my opinion it needs to be reserved for handicap parking. I have a handicap post, but no where to accommodate me. The bathrooms, one for men & one for women. I was waiting to used the woman’s bathroom, when one of the employees told a man to go into the woman’s bathroom. When he come out the whole toilet was cover with pee. I was disgusting. And went to the cashier & told her. The bathrooms must always be clean. And I do mind if it says it’s a woman’s bathroom, I don’t want to used it, if a man goes there and pees all over. I hope the restaurant owners do something about the proving handicap parking and keeping the bathrooms for just the appropriate sex & clean. I will give it another try.

It was my first time here. This place has been around since 2011 so it's safe to say I'm late to the party but boy am I glad I finally came! The staff was very helpful and attentive. Although it was a busy Saturday morning, the food came out reasonably fast. We all ordered the Cafe de olla. Fair warning, the large coffee is a massive 32oz mug. But for a coffee lover like myself, this was a dream. The coffee itself was delicious, a bit on the sweet side but not unreasonably so. As an appetizer we got the burritos catedral. A comforting shredded pork w/ beans burrito sliced in 4 topped w/ sour cream and a generous amount of crumbled queso fresco which I highly recommend. I ordered the Enchiladas de mole con pollo. It was only mildly spicy but I enjoyed them very much. The mole itself was packed with flavor. The word "authentic" often gets thrown around carelessly when it comes to Mexican restaurants here in the city. I find that most of them compromise the bold and beautiful flavors of Mexican cuisine in order to cater towards the Americans that are under the impression that a place like Pepe's is authentic. I'm stoked that that isn't the case here at La Catedral. Here, the word spicy actually means something. Things like the chile de arbol salsa demand respect. The cafe de olla actually has cinnamon and piloncillo. I get the sense that anything coming out of that kitchen will be unapologetically Mexican. Will definitely be coming back!

I wish they had a 3.5 stars option but anyways let’s unpack. Atmosphere - Kind of loud and fast paced. I wouldn’t recommend going there if you want to take your time and have good conversation and actually feel comfortable Service- Our server was very nice! He was helpful and efficient. However, you barely have any time to look at the menu before they ask you if you’re ready to order. There’s also no physical menus so I would make sure to take a look on you’re phone before coming in. Food- Hit or miss tbh. The Enfrijoladas La Cathedral were excellent! Enchiladas potosinas are definitely not enchiladas potosinas lol, wouldn’t recommend. Arroz con leche French Toast were fire!! The arroz con leche crepes were eh but I’m not generally a crepe lover. Our family friend enjoyed his Alambre and my step dad said the Chilaquiles en Salsa de Molcajete really upset his stomach. Drinks- Rompoccino was so good!! Their Capuccino with Cajeta was too sweet and the Chocolate Abuelita was just regular, nothing too remarkable. Loved that a cookie comes with the drinks though! Overall, I would recommend going if you have the chance and you’re curious but personally, it was a one and done for me. Make sure to get on that waitlist or they will not let you in!

Decided after many years and online promoting decided to drive out with my family to give them a try. No line wait which was awesome, but when we arrived we were surprised that the menus don’t have the price of each plate or drink. Our waiter was very welcoming and attentive. We had an order of chilaquiles verdes delicious but disappointed they only served it with beans. Not filling at all. We also ordered a strawberry waffle not good at all literally tasted like a store bought waffle IHOP waffles are way better and bigger portion. We also order some crepes loved the presentation but the flavor was missing. The omelette had a plain taste harsh browns as well. The horchata was missing a lot of sugar! Not to mention the cafe was delicious but ridiculous overpriced $7!! For a small cafe de olla (regular size coffee mug) and $5.50 for a regular coffee. No refills. They complemented with 1 Maria cookie but for the price of the coffee I would had expected a small concha. The bill was over $100. Overall the environment is very nice and the staff but for the portions of the food is overpriced. I hope it was just a bad kitchen day. But not going back in a while.
