Sam's Gyro — Restaurant in West Hartford

DONT GO HERE. OWNERS ARE CRAZY. I never write reviews, but my terrible confrontation with the owner made me feel compelled to write something.

So, I work right next door. I called to order a side of fries just as an afternoon snack. The woman rudely tells me they don’t do orders of fries over the phone to just come in if I want that. I explained how close I was & would be right over. She agreed to make them.

I walk over to get my fries & once again, she rudely is explaining to me again to order them in person because that’s just “how they do things here” which not gonna lie, caused me to have a bit of an attitude at this point. I just couldn’t understand the problem with ordering a simple order of fries.

Long story short - It ended with this woman denying me my fries for no reason. She literally made them & threw them in the garbage right in front of me. I was so uncomfortable at this point, there was so much tension. I go to leave & the male owner got in my face, telling me I need to go back in & apologize to this woman for treating her the way I did. Obviously being a paying customer didn’t matter. It was truly the worst, most uncomfortable customer service I’ve ever encountered in my life. Definitely never EVER going back.

Moral of - save your money for a restaurant in the center that actually understands what it means to give good customer service. Oh, and god forbid don’t order fries...

This place is a hidden gem. I'd walked by it tons of times over the last couple of years, but never thought of going in until recently when I had a hankering for feta cheese. I got the Arabian wrap without olives, but didn't speak as clearly as I should have (I had a fussy 7 month old with me) and when it first came out, it had olives. No biggie, I knew it was my fault for being so scattered when I ordered so I just grabbed a fork and started pulling the olives out. The man who had made the wrap (who I presume to be the owner) saw me doing this and insisted on making me a new one. When it came out and I took that first bite- pure heaven.

The ingredients are so fresh, the chicken is marinated in something so delicious I don't even know how they do it, and there is some kind of sauce on the wrap that I can only describe as magical. I've been back twice since, about a month apart each time. Both times, the same guy who made my first wrap looks at me and says "no olives, right?" This place has definitely become a mainstay of mine!

Bottom line: great food, good price, great...

Terribly run business!! Tried to get lunch after a little snow fell and was told they were not cooking because they thought no customers would come in because of the weather. I asked why they were even open if they were not cooking and the had no idea. Went back the next day to try and get lunch. Walked inside and there was no one working at all inside. After yelling for five minutes for someone to help a girl appeared and told me if I wanted food it would be awhile because she was with a food inspector and couldnt help any customers. I said "what???" No one else works here to serve people and she said no.

The food is not too bad but definitely not worth the aggravation!!!!!!

Tried one more time. DONT EVER GO IN THIS PLACE!!!! EVER EVER EVER!!!!!!! ...
