Saoco Colombian Restaurant — Restaurant in West Haven

I'm giving this restaurant one star for the discriminatory service. We came here on 10/23/2022 at around 4:40pm. The minute my black family came in, we got met with stares that continued the e entire course of our meal. We were forced by the waiter to order our main course at the same time we ordered our appetizer even though I specifically asked if we could eat that first. Our main course came less than 5 minutes after our appetizers. We order calamari, morcilla, two bendeja paisas and a picada, a Pina, espresso, and a water. While we ate the two women in the front stared us down and every time I looked back, the blonde woman came over and asked was my food okay instead of asking if I needed/wanted anything. Our waiter did not come over once to ask us if we wanted anything, I had to call him over multiple times. When I called him over the last time to order an alcoholic drink and another Pina, I had my debit card sitting on the table. Instead of bringing me the check, he grabbed my debit card and tried to walk away with it. I had to ask him to put it down and bring me the check. Only until I signed the receipt did they stop staring at us. We came here for our son's birthday, I made a reservation and spent over $120 here and left a $13 tip despite how we felt eating here. Your staff here made us feel rushed, unwelcome, and made it a very uncomfortable experience for us. I was told if you like columbian food "THIS IS THE PLACE" I have very low yet respectable standards when it comes to ordering food "take out". I know it may not be hot, i know the presentation will be lack luster, I know that you may "get more" when your sitting at the place. So when I ordered i wasn't expecting anything more than "pretty good" columbian food. I orderd and was told 30 min. I arrived and the food was brought to me (plastic bag handles knotted together ) Once I arrived at my home I was surprised to fond that my meal was missing. I live about 15-20 min away so I figured I'd call to get a junp start on them making my food. I called & redialed thier number the entire drive until they answered as I was pulling in (called 77 times to be exact). Once inside the girl wanted to give me my old cold dinner which they mistakenly forgot to give me before. I asked for another one fresh. Received an attitude then was told I will need to wait 30 min. 8 min later my meal came out. Obviously a microwaved version of my old meal. Hows that for integrity. So we started by ordering drinks. I got the Aloha Tequila, mango daiquiri, and my boyfriend got a beer and a passion margarita. That tequila was really good but his passion margarita was the best out of all the drinks.

For appetizers, we got beef empanadas and fried calamari. The empanadas had a lot of potatoes compared to the beef so they weren't my favorite. The fried calamari was good but we definitely didn't chipotle doing sauce like the menu said. It tasted more like blue cheese so we ended up using the sauce from the empanadas for dipping

For the entrees, I got the grilled chicken with rice and beans and he got the spicy beef and shrimp with rice. Mine was okay but it had A TON of cilantro and I'm not the biggest fan of cilantro. My boyfriend's food, on the other hand, was 10/10. He asked for it extra spicy and it was perfect. The beef was tender the sauce was AMAZING. We ended up taking his left overs and putting it in a breakfast burrito the next day.

For dessert, we had a soccer of tres leches cake and it was really good because it's tres leches.

All in all, we will be going back and I'll be ordering...
