Upon entering Walt's Pub and Grill, I was encouraged and excited by the appearance of both the interior and exterior of this new restaurant. It really is quite a beautiful place. However, that excitement quickly faded as our party of 10 approached the host's desk. We were not greeted, or even acknowledged, when we entered. We also observed this happen to at least 4 other parties that came in after us. No one was helped until a member of the party got the attention of the hostess. When we asked how long it would be for us to be seated at our reserved table, they told us they would check. The individual that went to check for us returned moments later, however did not say anything to us. A member of our party had to approach her, again, and ask her for the update. She then informed us it would be at least 5 more minutes, as our server was taking care of another table and was not ready for us yet. This was not a big deal, however we would have appreciated the hostess being proactive and informing us of this, rather than us having to remind her that we asked her to check on something for us. After being seated, we were greeted by our server, who was very lovely. She was definitely one of the only things about our experience that I have positive things to say about. The appetizer plates we received were covered in butter, the wine glasses we were given were water spotted and still had lip marks on them from previous users. Keeping in mind this was around 8pm on New Year's Eve, we were shocked to hear they were out of vegetables, potatoes, thousand island dressing, and paper towel in the men's restroom. The entrees we received were cold, and while some of the steaks we ordered were cooked correctly, a number of them were not. We were expecting, with all of these things going wrong, that a manager was going to come out and apologize for the inconveniences, and potentially try to build back some rapport. However, no such thing happened. Our server let us know that since they were out of so many of the things we wanted to order, we would receive complimentary desserts. While that was a kind gesture, it was unfair for our server to be expected to relay this information, as none of it was within her control. We tipped our server well, as she did a wonderful job with what little she was given to work with. Walt's Pub and Grill clearly needs to work on many things, and it all starts with the management. We had high hopes for this restaurant, as this area needs new and fun places like this, however we were extremely disappointed and it was the general consensus of the group that we will not...
Read moreWe had a reservation for 6 on a Saturday night. We should have known when we walked in that we should leave - the place was 1/2 empty.
No food is served on the patio - a lovely area with fireplaces on the water.
First, the hostess ignored us. Our waitress was Leslie - she was delightful and worked hard to serve us.
They do have a nice beer selection including one on Nitro.
There were 4 of us and a baby. No one offered a high chair to us - although we had a baby in a car seat.
We ordered 4 entrees - 3 of them had problems. I ordered a ribeye steak - rare rare rare. My steak came well done and cold but no pink at all. The onion rings were cold too. They did get the blue cheese substitution right. They don't say in the menu that the steak will be seasoned but it was heavily seasoned - I don't like pepper and the menu didn't say it would come with a ton of pepper.
The Ahi tuna sandwich was perfectly done and very nice - but the French fries were cold.
The other ribeye steak had the wrong cheese on it. Hers came without lettuce or tomato.
The club sandwich was ordered without tomato - it came with it anyway.
To comp us for the overcooked steak, they offered us a free dessert. We asked about options - 2 were to be served with ice cream - we chose the apple wrap. The apple and crust were very nice. However, it shows ice cream in the photo and states it on the dessert menu. It came without ice cream. Then we asked for 4 spoons - they only had 1 clean spoon in the restaurant.
Seriously. can't the management send a team member with a $5 to the local Meijer store for a bucket of ice cream?
The restaurant is in a beautiful new building that opened in November. I can tell you why they got 3 stars and can't afford to purchase ice cream.
This restaurant is suffering from lack of direction from someone who owns it and can make...
Read moreWe went to the newest Walt's location this weekend, excited to finally have a new sit-down dinner option on the west side.
To start, the location is gorgeous and huge. There is a ton of available seating, and the patio area is to die for. The staff and host that greeted us were friendly and fast. The waitstaff was friendly and checked in often. We ordered a potato bites appetizer to start, and it was delicious and just the right size to share between two people.
Unfortunately, the rest of the experience was very mediocre. We ordered off of the up-scale entree portion of the menu, since it was a Saturday night and we wanted a full dinner experience. These items are all approximately twice the price as anything else on the menu, and are supposed to come with bread, as well as a soup/salad. We were never even asked about the soup/salad (we didn't quite realize this till our food was almost out, so we did not ask about it), and had to specifically ask for the bread when our food was taking awhile. Our waitress was working her butt off all night, so I suspect this is more of a training issue at a new restaurant than any problem with a specific staff member.
Once the food came, all the more mediocre. We got the seared ahi tuna and the filet. Both looked good on the plate, but were incredibly under-seasoned. Rice, veggies, fries, meat, all had little or sometimes no seasoning at all. It was so bland my wife couldn't even be bothered to finish her meal, and she left hungry.
I love that there is a restaurant like this on the west side, but they didn't deliver. I give them points for the good appetizer and location, but dinner is the main component and for the prices they are charging I expected a lot more. I suspect some of these issues are growing pains, so we'll probably go back in a month and I'll update this review if things...
