Updated review as this is a new restaurant for over a year now. Previously Rice& Beans. Now Santiago. Atmosphere is non existent. Unkept dining room with mismatched peeling paint and caving ceilings is what you’ll find here. Random dpt store bag and strollers stacked up on prep tables next to the flat iron in the kitchen. Staff never says thank you. I’ve been giving this place a chance for over a year now as the previous establishment at this location was my favorite restaurant an we don’t have many Hispanic offerings in this town. One of the ladies will smile and speak pleasantly. Besides that I never get a thank you. The exterior is in deplorable condition. This is one of those establishments you quickly get the idea to stay out of the bathroom if you want to keep your appetite. Food is inconsistent. It can be so good at times. Then you order the exact thing a few hours later on the same business day and your entree will be made with completely differently. You may get oven roasted chicken on your chicken empanada or Yaroa one day. Then the next day it’s saucy stewed chicken. Then the next time you order it’s dry shredded chicken. You never know what you’re going to get.
The good- when the food is good it’s great.
The bad- service, exterior, interior dining area, interior kitchen/food prep area, inconsistent food quality or choice of preparation. Prices are outrageous.
I wanted to love the new owners and new direction for this establishment. It is a disappointment in nearly every way. The chicken quarter pictured was $6. If you’re a local, give it a shot. I’d love to know how you feel about your meal. If you’re not a local or you’re pinching pennies and looking to treat an entire family…look elsewhere as I’m afraid you’d leave with a foul taste...
Read moreNot the greatest experience here I must say… My husband and I food came out and we were told our children’s were going to be 5 more mins , 20 mins passed with no update at all on the kids food. They finally come and bring out my sons food , my poor 6 year old daughter was very hungry and they said hers is still going to be “another” 5 mins ( it took 10 more) mean while this lady puts a plate on top of my food and proceeds to take it away! I’m like hey I’m not done eating yet. She apologizes and I accept it but I’m confused as to why she would assume I was done without asking and with 1/2 a plate full she doesn’t even attempt to offer anything to make it right even though she put a dirty dish on my food. They finally bring my daughters food out after everyone else is finished eating. My husbands plate was empty and even had napkins on it and she smartly asked “is he done!” I said yes his plate was empty , mines wasn’t. She then refused to come back to our table , never asked if we are ok or needed anything … won’t even bring us our check I had to get up. She clearly saw we were taken back with our experience and she didn’t even offer any comp for what she did to my meal. We usually tip 20-30% every time we go out . I gave 10% and that was way more then she deserved sadly. As far as the food it was good ,my daughters burger looked way too pink I didn’t even realize till she was half way through so I told her to stop and just eat her fries which she didn’t even want to finish anymore. And because of their bad attitude I didn’t mention anything. Due to this experience I will never go back or recommend. My daughter even told me in the car that she didn’t want to eat all her food because she knew we were there for to long and didn’t want us to wait for her to eat 😢
UPDATE: next morning and my daughter got food poisoning, I’m pretty furious with...
Read moreFirst off, I love Latinx cuisine. Mexican, Caribbean, Spanish. I'll take most of it on. And I was expecting to find greatness here. Well, we arrived and sat ourselves as the sign suggested. We figured we get a waitress in a few minutes. After about six minutes, wifey stood up and grabbed menus from the counter. After several more minutes, we finally got service. We didn't seem important for some reason. Then the waitress took our order, but failed to ask if we were thirsty. Yeah. So we sat for another almost ten minutes waiting for drinks. Now, the interesting thing here is that my wife likes to drink water. Nooo, not because she is cheap (although I will admit she is a little thrift-saver), but because she saves calories for food. Well, in here, the water is bottled and costs money. No advice to make us realize this, just grabbed the bottled water and can of Pepsi and brought it to the table. Now, onto the menu. The design was nice, with actual pictures of things like mofongo and various classic Spanish, Mexican, South American, and Caribbean dishes. I ordered the Bandeja Paísa (Colombian style) which is a plate of meat, basically. The wife had tacos. Everything looked splendid and we were trying to forget the service issues. The food tasted great and I was happy there. But the cost... That was a bit high. But hey, economic climate and all. When we finished, we waited for the bill for almost fifteen minutes. It never came. Part of me was like, "I bet they don't even care if we just leave," but I didn't want to dine and dash. So I approached the people and asked for the bill. Our waitress hovered over me signing the bill until I entered the tip. I felt uneasy, so I just gave her the standard 20%. She deserved about 5%. (I ALWAYS tip generously.) Anyhow, long story short, we won't be returning. And you should probably avoid...
