I had homemade creamy potato bacon soup as an appetizer. My entree was liver and onions and I choose mashed potatoes with gravy as my side. (You get one side, plus soup or salad.) I had the salad and chose the house dressing which is homemade Greek dressing. My platter came with two huge slices of liver which was tender and covered with tender onions in lots of gravy. The mashed potatoes were a little dry, but were topped with more of the homemade gravy. Apparently our meal didn't come with any bread or dinner rolls because none were served. For desert I ordered homemade pumpkin pie. Our waitress actually switched out a large slice for a huge slice (without me even asking!) and asked if I wanted it topped with whipped cream. Naturally I said yes; who would turn down whipped cream?!!! 😋 I had to remind another waitress to bring my coffee, but that was understandable being that I asked for decaf and they made a fresh pot for me. The pie was delicious. My boyfriend ordered flounder with a side of pickled beets, and he chose the same soup instead of a salad. He said the beets were very good however..... his two huge pieces of flounder (which took up the entire platter) were breaded with very little flounder inside. They were so hard and crunchy that he couldn't poke his fork into the edges and had to cut them off. He went through 3 glasses of soda (@ $1.99 each) until he got the fish down. He's had the flounder from Astoria before, but always ordered it broiled. Unfortunately this time the menu didn't specify or offer an option, and he didn't think to ask. Our waitress was so sweet, polite, friendly and helpful. The restaurant was clean; in fact our waitress was vacuuming the floors when we got there. We had an early dinner, arriving around 3pm. There were a few people seated outside in the enclosed area but we were alone inside until near 4 when we were leaving. Our bill was $32.57. The soda and coffee were pricey, but it is what it is these days. I recommend this restaurant for individual, couple, family, friends and small group dining. It's family owned and has so far survived the loss of business during the pandemic. I chose to eat at this restaurant because I knew they have good homemade food, and I wanted to support a local...
Read moreAfter coming here most Sundays or Saturdays for 17 years, we will never be back. Tessa the one waitress argues too much and is always there. The place is nothing fabulous, but was our spot. The arguing between waitresses, loud for all to hear is ridiculous. The reason we chose not to return, the table cloths are filthy, food dripping and spills down the edges. You do get cups with lipstick or silverware with buildup and the nastiness that some of the waitresses were saying as they talked about customers, not us thank heavens, was disappointing and disgusting. A lot of older people choose to eat here and making fun of the elderly is gross. Lastly, if you finally get seated, don't worry, they will move you sometimes several times, carrying your food because they need your seat for someone else who has come in to dine. We were moved and told by this Tessa that we will sit where ever the hell she wants us to sit. This wasn't a funny haha! joke...and was in front of the packed restaurant. Not whining but simply stating find somewhere else to go. Where you can eat in peace, not paying 50 cents extra now per egg used to make your omelet, yes they are now charging that. Have a clean table to rest your plates on, know the waitresses aren't mocking or making fun of you, you won't need to ask for a clean cup 3 or more times, your fork doesn't have build up from 10 people before you and the arguing loudly across the restaurant and sitting bar, isn't all you hear...
Read moreThis is a gem of a diner. Gals you must visit the clean bathroom and read the one wall plaque. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. When I lived in West York I frequently went to Breakfast at the Astoria. Cooked to order, inexpensive, delicious. I would just tell our personable waitress what I wanted and she would price it for me. They have wonderful breakfast combos on the menu but portions are large. Great coffee and they keep your cup full. Lunch and dinner specials and homemade soups, I am drooling thinking of their wedding soup. I enjoyed their non spicy cream of crab that had pieces of crab in it. Their Boiled Chicken Pot Pie has an all you can eat night along with other nights having other menu items on this special. Lunch and dinner specials are changed daily. Local specialties such as scrapple. Greek food is delicious and made there in the restaurant. Tziki sauce makes everything better in my book.(no, I am not Greek but I greatly appreciate this cuisine). Personable wait staff that learn your name if you tell them and come often enough. Love and miss all of you. Locally owned and operated it is a family business...
