Guisseppe's Restaurant — Restaurant in West Milford

This rating is based off the multiple encounters we had with the head chef. The food and service was phenomenal and this rating would be 5 stars had it not been for the head chef. We had an event at the restaurant, booking it back in April. The woman we spoke with was kind and very helpful, stating that we would have the restaurant to ourselves for our guests. We had not heard from them so we reached out a few days before the event. The head chef had an attitude from the start. He began berating me stating that I was supposed to call a week before with the final head count before he ordered the food for the event. Even though we were never informed about calling beforehand, you would think before they ordered the food, they would reach out to us to confirm. Come the day of the event, the head chef stated that the restaurant would be open to the public, even though we were initially told that we would have the restaurant to ourselves. During the event, the head chef asked for my husband, who he yelled at in front of all the guests stating that if we do not pay for all the food he had ordered, we could pack up and leave. I've tried every Italian place nearby and this one was the worst takeout experience. Not sure if their chef was out that day but the pasta had a weird almost soapy aftertaste, could've been the half inch layer of tomato sauce over them... inedible for me. Meatballs were decent. Chicken Francese was good but it looked like they poured a cup of francese sauce for me to drink after with how much sauce they used. No bread either. They gave me quantity over quality. 5 chicken breast strips in a chicken francese is way too much for one person. The francese sauce also was too zesty making it smell unpleasant, tasted good though. First full disclosure my daughter has been working here and they have provided a great work environment but she also comments on how fresh everything is. She checks expiration dates on everything before eating it and is super picky about germs. The fact that she feels comfortable with the kitchen, ingredients, and food prep makes me feel good about eating here. I have an autoimmune disease and they accommodated my diet restrictions and made great suggestions as I am new to eating out with the restrictions.
