I bike the GAP, and I am often in or through West Newton. I've wanted to stop here and try the Smash Burger. I was going to do that today (7-24) at approximately 2:45 after a 20 mile ride.
Well, I just put my bike on my car and went on home to eat. I suppose that "today's atmosphere" was loudly playing country music. What a turn-off! I didn't even bother checking the place out because I didn't want to sit in that noise and try to enjoy my food. I would have liked to have had a relaxing visit. But, that wasn't to be.
I just read the response from the owner explaining that the noise was coming from Bloom Brew's Draft Wagon. I appreciate the response. However, Bloom Brew isn't helping The Outpost's business if they are going to play music like that. It can be heard all over the area.
I'll try to stop by The Outpost again and hope that the volume is turned down.
I have now stopped by the Outpost twice since my original rating. Those Smash Burgers are absolutely delicious! The atmosphere was sooooo much better now with the neighbor's music turned down. Since I'm often on the trail in West Newton, I'll be eating more and more...

I'm not saying it was bad. I'm just saying it's not an average of 4.9 stars. I'd go 3.5 to 3.9 because they get a bump for location.
Bacon burger was okay... Two thinner patties. Garlic aioli seems to be their thing but it was tasteless. It's not complicated to make amazing homemade aioli (good or homemade mayo, crushed garlic, white pepper and let get happy overnight) so I'm assuming this was out of a jar.
Burger and fries too salty. Actually that's the only seasoning I could taste on the burger.
Alright. I get it, it's 2023 and finding anyone to work is tough. But, maybe the employees could smile at the customers? They have a good time together but this didn't transfer over to me. You order at a window and then the only thing they do is bring the food to you. I don't think I'm asking too much.
Last, I'm a stickler for cleanliness. I was there right after they opened and the trash cans were half full from the day before. Meaning, they sat out all night percolating a nice aroma that greeted me when I put my trash in. Again, trained staff or owner that emphasizes...
Read moreHands-down the best burger I've had in ages. Quality beef that's perfectly cooked, a gorgeous garlic aioli, fresh vibrant veggies that are actually full of flavor. Awesome stuff. The burgers aren't big, so get two if you're hungry. They're pricey ($10 or so) but well worth it; only top notch stuff here. Plus the money goes towards an actual good cause, so you'll never feel guilty about dropping excessive coin on food here. Can't say that about most other burger spots these days. The fries, unlike the burgers, come in a very large portion. The $4 "regular" size chili cheese fries easily dwarfed most restaurants large size of fries, so you get high quality and value with the sides. The atmosphere is just as good as the food. The riverside views are just incredible. This really is one of my favorite new spots. Can't say enough good things about it. It's easily worth the bike or drive. Can't wait to get back on the GAP so I can come eat and chill...
