Ballyhoo... clamoring the market & demanding nothing less than perfection. This ice cream parlor & Candy Shop is an ode to the first half of the 20th century. At a time when war ravaged our nation & a hot bath was a luxury indulgance. Recapturing a Time when everybody dressed their best everyday and children swarmed the candy shop counters hoping their favorite candy isn't out of stock. Their retro design & attitude is an important part of History & gives the younger Generations a chance to step back in time. There's even an authentic Old National cash register on display, which is a lovely touch.
Their ice cream selection is quite modest compared to all modern ice cream parlors, which further demands Authentication. Each selection is wonderful & I have yet had a scoop I did not enjoy thoroughly.
Their antique glass counters are filled with old candies, new candies, sour candies or out of this world candies! They even have funky chicken feet candies!
There are a couple gumball machines with the special glimmering candy that will win you a free ice cream, should you be the lucky adventurer. There is also a hen that will lay you an egg for a quarter hiding a little prize inside for your prize by your side.
Do yourself a favor & step into the time machine at Ballyhoo & experience it all for yourself, I promise, you will not be...
Read moreAll I can say is “wow” and stand here in disbelief! This ice cream parlor goes above and beyond with a grand selection of candies and so many choices for cold and sweet treats! Honestly, the first I walked into a candy/ice cream store and asked, “Will you be dining with us?” Upon entering Ballyhoo, you see a wall of candy. A collection most would think is overwhelming, there are so many different types and some candies that are a blast from the past! Once seated, we were given a menu (3-4 pages!) to decide how we wanted to ruin my diet. My daughter selected a kid-sized cup of Salted Caramel Truffle with Reese’s Pieces peanut butter candy sprinkled on top. I went with the Chocolate Cupcake Hot Chocolate. Let me tell you, neither disappointed! This place is set up with so many cool and funny decorations (there is a huge cow in the front window and an old gum ball machine in the dining area). It really makes the experience magical. The staff are so friendly and helpful (and patient while we tried to make our decisions)! And really, if I was working there, I would be happy all the time, too! Do yourself a favor and visit this treasure, but maybe plan for a walk afterwards to burn...
Read moreRetro themed ice cream and penny candy store fun for young and old. What a find Ballyhoo is! The family owners have re-purposed a beautiful old storefront in West Pittson into a classic ice cream parlor and candy store brimming with charm. Situated off the main drag on a street lined with big classic Victorians, Ballyhoo will take you back to a time of pre-screen based entertainment.
Our kids are always agog when they are here and love doing all of the old mechanical games and rides, and our parents love to talk about how stores like this used to be so much fun when they were kids. It really connects generations. On top of that, the service is also friendly and charming and the prices for ice cream, sundaes and candy are inexpensive. Maybe you can't get anything for a penny anymore, but a dollar will buy a lot of candy. Definitely...
