Awful.
We used to eat regularly at the now closed Cross Lanes location and decided to try the Teays Valley location.
The Service was poor.
The food was terrible.
We were seated near the kitchen window and should have been tipped off by the older lady working the food line arguing with and being rude to the servers.
Both our appetizer and meal sat in the window forever.
The chicken livers and onions came out burnt. Our friend that ordered them said they were the worst he has ever ate. When he tried to send them back, the server actually argued they weren’t burnt even though 3 people at our table all tasted them and agreed.
I had a pulled pork platter. The frozen fries came out cold. The corn fritters were cold and flavorless. One of the things that I used to like about the Cross Lanes location was the selection of sauces. My pulled pork came out wirh a bland sauce already on it that had baked down to the consistency of tomato paste while sitting in the window. No choice of BBQ sauces was offered.
Our group also ordered the catfish special which came out undercooked.
The best thing that anyone ate was the Graham Cracker pie that the server was hesistant to serve because it “didn’t look good”. She was right. It had not setup properly but still tasted fine.
I give the server a little slack because she was slammed. One of the other servers closed out at 6:30 just as they got busy. Not sure what kind of management allows that at dinner on a Saturday. But because they were short staffed we were never ask if we wanted a refill even we she removed the empty beer bottles.
We were clearly unhappy but there was no manager present at least not that made their presence known and no one cared the rest of our plates and those from the tables around us were going back to the kitchen nearly full.
After a long wait for our bill, we paid cash and left because we couldn’t get out fast enough. Very disappointing since we really enjoyed the Cross Lanes location and their live music on weekends. They would have to pay us to return to ...
Read moreMy wife and I love barbecue. Let me correct that statement. My wife and I love good barbecue. This was not good barbecue. We ordered the Two Can Eat meal. We did make a mistake when we ordered. We had seen that it came smothered in bbq sauce and we had mentioned to one another that we'd ask them to have the sauce on the side...and then promptly forgot to do so. That mistake aside, when our food arrived, we ate. And to say we weren't impressed is an understatement. Everything tasted the same. The brisket, pulled pork, pulled chicken, and ribs all tasted exactly the same. And it wasn't even the sauce taste, the meats themselves tasted all the same. And it wasn't even remotely a bbq flavor. On top of that, the meats were swimming in a veritable soup that made them soggy and have a horrible texture on the tongue. We ate about half of the meat, mainly because we were about to drive three hours to get home and wouldn't feel like cooking and wouldn't have any restaurants open when we got there, so we had to eat something.
Then there were the sides. We ordered colored greens, home style green beans, onion rings, and cole slaw. The onion rings were amazing. Crispy, flavorful, and exactly what you want when ordering rings. Hands down the star of our meal. Everything else seemed like it was plopped out of a can and heated in a microwave (and yes, even the slaw was warm). The colored greens had zero flavor. The green beans were exactly what you'd get out of a can of knock off green giant. The slaw was warm, as stated above, and so finely chopped that it was a mush in thin slaw sauce soup. It honestly reminded me of the kind of slaw you get on a cheap, late-night hotdog cart hotdog...minus any flavor.
This was the kind of bbq that made us wish we were vegetarians.
The only reason they didn't get the embarrassing 1-star review is that our waitress was good. She was attentive, kind, and understood not to ask how our food was after we declined a box for our...
Read moreAbsolutely horrid! The chicken sandwich's chicken was dry and, the bbq sauce for it had no taste. The juice in the corn tasted sour and expired. The beans are just bushes baked beans with cheap pork. The pork in the beans had too much fat and had no taste. The ribs were hickory smoked but for 2 seconds. The meat was pink raw and the top was just over smoked to make it appealing. The servers were inattentive and the service was horrible. We were overcharged for a "tip" we did not want to pay. The waitress only gave us water without straws and 10 minutes later comes with straws. They only watch TV and never are attentive. They never came to check on us. Only drinks and food and gone. The 4-5 star reviews are from the live music only. The dining area food is absolutely disgusting. I would advise if none comes here unless you want to be overcharged for a "tip." The live music a I've looked at the other reviews is the only thing keeping this business alive. Dont come here and waste your hard earned dollars on absolutely horrid service and disgusting food. When the server did come, she was nice for a minute. A 20$ dinner for my whole family ended up to be 30$ when after tax it should be 22$. Dont waste your money here and instead go to famous dave's instead of here. The decorations and temperature of the place is decent but the food is horrid and so if the service. When we were going to pay, we payed with card. The lady told my s/o to sign the receipt and walked away and never came back to get it. Food takes 19 minutes to arrive at the table and is not cooked right. The only good food is when they get the most business, when they do the live music. Which is where most of the 4-5 star...
