What happened?? I’m really surprised no one has said anything on a review site yet about this place being CLOSED, and it really looks like a permanent closure. The Village Shoppe was closed when I was here in February of this year, but I thought it was maybe just a temporary closure. Now that I’m back doesn’t look like they ever opened back up again… this is a tragedy! 😢😭🥺

This is a quaint bakery with excellent kolaches and pastries. They say they are the oldest Czech bakery in Texas. The cinnamon roll was the best I've had in years. I had to get some to go! Worth the stop if you're a pastry fan like I am.

Such a cute atmosphere and delicious kolaches (reportedly where savory kolaches were invented). I recommend the ground pork kolaches and the blueberry strudel.

So it was late in the day, and they did not have everything. But I decided to get these twist sticks. They have 6 or different flavors, use a special dough (might be their kolache dough, paint the flavors in, twist, bake, and cover in white sugar glaze.

For myself, I got the cheese (like cheesecake flavor) and apricot flavors. We had just eaten a big lunch at the German American restaurant around the corner. So we put them in the back of the car. By the time we got home more than half the sugar glaze had melted. They were divine!! Figured go ahead and try them, don't want them stale in the morning!! Best dinner ever. I...

I wanted to try kolaches, and figured I may as well come taste the originals at the Oldest Czech bakery in Texas. I was not disappointed! Only problem now is that my standards are too high for most other locations to meet. The staff were friendly, patient, and helpful as I asked questions and made my choices. Fast service. Delicious products. It isn't a long drive from the Interstate - do your taste buds a favour and drive a little out...
