Katana Sushi & Ramen — Restaurant in Westminster

First off I will say I was very impressed when I first entered, this place is beautifully decorated and has a very appealing atmosphere going for it. My husband and I went and ordered sushi, each getting a specialty roll and a regular roll. We also got a miso soup, an onion soup and a piece of unagi sushi and tofu skin. The soups were delicious, as were there individual pieces of sushi. The rolls however were not very good. The presentation was a little sloppy and my husband's specialty roll kept coming apart making it difficult to eat. The fish itself didn't seem to be the freshest and the ratio of fish to cucumber/avacado/etc was off. Service was just ok, not terrible but will did have to wait a little longer than we would have liked to order. On the whole, not a BAD experience, but if we are going to drop $60 on a night out for sushi - being the first date night in a while, I'd like for it to be better than just... "Ehh... It was ok". That being said, there are a lot of other options on their menu besides sushi and I cannot speak to the quality of those dishes. And I don't think I'll be going back to try them out...

I've been to this restaurant twice and let me say that everything here is absolutely lovely. The service is amazing and the food matches. The wait staff is very attentive and nice, and they chat nicely with you. One of the waiters and I had a conversation about where I'm from and the college nearby, it was very pleasant. I personally ordered spicy ramen with pork and it was incredible. Its definitely worth the price, and the bowl they give it to you in is large. The ambiance is very calming and nice but not so much so that you feel like you have to dress up to eat there, but you could definitely have a very nice date there. I went again today and had some of the sushi and it was impeccable. I'm not a big sushi eater but it definitely had me coming back for more. It wasn't falling apart and all the ingredients taste extremely fresh, and it still melts nicely in your mouth. I love this place so much already, and I didn't need to go twice to figure that out. The food is really good! Exceptional!

My only reason for not giving 5 stars is because I'm highly allergic to wasabi and asked for no wasabi with the sushi--explaining because I'm allergic.

They brought out the sushi and I didnt see any wasabi, so I just began eating it. Thankfully, I still looked because I noticed a little green smudge on 2 end pieces.

I asked the server and she said "Oh yes, that's wasabi. They put it on the plate and then removed it. No big deal, it's just 2 pieces, you have the others and they're good!"

They didnt offer to replace the sushi or deduct anything from my bill, nor did I receive an apology.

Im allergic enough that touching remnants of wasabi can cause hives and swelling, eating some of it causes throat swelling and trouble breathing.
