discovered this place few months ago and had a pretty good breakfast for lunch; paid close to $20 for one meal and coffee but at least it was a good, big plate of food.
thought seeing many menu items marked with a gluten-free icon along with written promise to make accommodations was a good sign. took family here for a week night dinner; sadly was sorely disappointed.
on this fateful night, staff seemed slammed when the place was not even full (maybe at 75% occupancy). waitress was a good sport and was polite, but all of our orders got some type of mistakes incurring.
first I was told my dish ran out -- it was 3 hours before closing -- so I ordered something else. then both of my dishes came to the table, only then we realized it was hub's dish that ran out so he had to reorder his. we were getting short on time by now, so he was ready to skip the meal. with some convincing he got something else.
i was actually glad the mix-up happened coz my original dish -- Guinness short rib hash with eggs, supposedly a house special with the "*" on -- looked really sad. when one was expecting a vibrant brown-burgundy color on the product, what I witnessed was close to gray. the texture was a mush... and the presentation got me thinking if someone was picking at it and just couldn't find the appetite to eat it... and I won't blame that person. meanwhile, the eggs ordered over-easy looked like they died twice. I would have been angry if I had to look at that dish and eat it too. so glad it was sent back due to the mix-up!
the burger I ended up having...was also undercooked than what I had ordered but at least it was edible and semi-enjoyable, if also forgettable. though, the bread started to fall apart three bites in, and hub suspected it was a GF bread. ended up knife-and-forking the rest.
kid got a regular menu brioche french toast that was more like cake than bread. and the extra order of egg was forgetten but we didn't bother at that point.
so instead of the dinner entree, hub got a breakfast dish on the promise that GF toast and separately grilled home fries would be provided. waitress was very good with it and comped his meal but sadly that didn't cover lost ground. turned out, hub got glutened and was sick for the night and the day after.
would have given them 4 stars for the previous visit but sadly had to downgrade to 2 now. appreciate the local ingredients, cage-free eggs and all, but you just can't make an allergy awareness claim and not follow through with staff...
Read moreMy friends and I were visting from New York for a Snowboarding trip around the area. Before heading to snowboard, we decided to get breakfast. We went on a weekend in the early evening. It was crowded and packed but we only had to wait 20mins or less to get a table. Which wasn't bad as my friends and I checked out the stores next door.
I dont remember our waitress name but she was amazing. She made sure that we were well. Came by each time to refill our drinks, made sure we had enough space on the table. We had a great small conversation with her and really enjoyed having her as our waitress. I wished I remember her name, as she deserves the recognition for her kind hospitality. We made sure to leave her a good tip and hope to have her again as our waitress when we visit again for another trip.
My friends and I enjoyed everything we ordered. The stuffed French toast looked amazing and was very filling. The burger was cooked to perfection and was filled with flavor. The coffee was fresh and delicious. The drinks were good and not too strong that you taste the alchole but not too strong that you'll get drunk off of one drink thankfully.
Even the whole wheat French toast was deliouse and the fruits were fruit and sweet.
Overall, we felt welcomed. Had a great host, service was quick and the food was delicious. A great experience for us...
Read moreMy wife and I had breakfast here mid-week in late February 2022 after a good Phantom Gourmet review. The location itself is typical for a diner; I expected a bit more "style" from a place with such a cute, tongue-in-cheek name, but no points deducted. The service was quick and attentive. The menu is extensive and interesting; lots of innovative options. The breakfast potatoes were a standout for us: simple but really crisp and delicious. The corned beef hash was fresh and delicious but a bit under-seasoned. Decent coffee too, which doesn't always happen. So far so good, and I might have given The Toast Office a full 4 stars except for one (personal) gripe: the Hollandaise sauce was very mediocre on the Eggs Benedict, and that's a telltale for me on any breakfast place (along with the corned beef hash, which again, was good here). Hollandaise usually runs either "buttery" or "lemony" and I enjoy both. This was neither. It didn't taste bad but didn't taste much of anything. A shame, because otherwise, we enjoyed our visit, do have confidence in the chef and staff, and will be back to try some of the other...
