My family and I did a call ahead and were told 20 minutes. Got there on time. My wife went in while I had our kids in the car. 15 minutes later my wife comes out and says our food isn't ready. At this point I've seen 3 different customers come and go. So I told my wife to ask for a refund so we could go somewhere else. She comes out 5 minutes later to say that they can't refund us because their service is down. Now we've had phone outages recently in my area of Wheaton so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. My wife looked frazzled and upset! Rightfully so! So I asked my wife to switch me one hell for another as our kids are hangry and screaming at this point! I come in and I'm pretty sure by my face they knew they were in for it. I waited a few minutes furiously staring at everyone while my food was handed to me. I ask that we need a refund or at least half off my order for waiting this long. Cashier proceeds to tell me that their card service is down and they can't refund the money back to my wife's card. I asked for cash compensation instead and they said they had to call their manager. I said do what you gotta do! Cashier proceeds to speak in Spanish to the manager and she starts to grab chips and salsa. I said chips and salsa won't make up for this! I was very displeased of what they thought would remedy the situation. I again asked for my money back or half off the order. Out of no where a man i haven't seen in the restaurant shows up and is at the register. I assumed he was a manager or owner as he never introduced himself. I told him my situation. He calmly asked if I wanted the food. I said for half off I will. He said ok. He proceeds to tell me he's going to void our transaction and rerun the card for half the price. The manager/owner did the right thing and was a man of his word. I shook his hand and apologized to everyone for my volume and left. This all couldve been done 15 minutes earlier had the cashier not lied to our faces about their service being down. Very disappointed by the whole experience! From placing the order by phone, to pick up, to even the food itself was a let down. It's sad because I really wanted to like this place! Btw, it was my son's bday that day to top it off! Hope you enjoyed your bday son screaming in our car waiting...
Read moreMy husband and I went house hunting last weekend. For me, house hunting triggers cravings that come in waves. First, it was pancakes. Next, it was Dairy Queen's Butterscotch Dip Cone. Then, Mexican food.
Just down the street from the last house we looked at was Mi Casa. When we drove by it, on the way to the last house, my husband said it looked like a renovated Taco Bell. While I should have been looking at one of the half baths in the last house, I was actually looking at Yelp and discovered the good reviews, so we gave it a try.
When we walked in, it was clear that there were not enough tables. There were three tables inside what was the shell of a fast food place. The owner quickly greeted us and pulled two chairs up to the counter (where you would order at a McDonald's) and gave us menus. More people came in, so the owner and a server went outside to grab patio furniture for people to sit on.
Now, this probably should have been bad sign or a turn off or something else negative, but it was oddly charming. We had a perfect view into the kitchen where everything was prepared to order. A very fast working female chef kept things afloat as more and more people came in.
We ordered chorizo, marinated pork, and chicken tacos. To be blunt: every taco was fantastic. Really. Also, cheap. Well-priced, very good food is surprising to find sometimes and this restaurant surprised me. You should go, just not on a Sunday afternoon, unless you time it just right to get the...
Read moreI've now eaten at the location in Bloomingdale twice. I think the salsa is outstanding. And the steak burrito is flavorful however for the money I would like it to be bigger. I decided on my second trip to get extra meat and to be perfectly honest with you it didn't seem any bigger than the one without extra meat. Also on my second trip they forgot my tamale in wish I had to go back to pick up and I believe I received a veggie tamale not a pork tamale. I get it things happen I surely hope that these are just growing pains of a new location. Needless to say I hope that I can change my review in the future thanks...
