My wife turned the big........well let's just say she made it through another year on this planet. So in perfect husband fashion I decided to treat her to a nice dinner. The Mcburger place just wasn't going to cut it this time. So after a Google search I decided on Figarettis. I heard people mention it before and had an idea of what it would be like. My grandmother was from Italy so when you hear " Italian restaurant" you think well it's a place that serves spaghetti because there can't be a restaurant that cooks like my noni did! Well my idea was completely off. Walking in you get a feeling of relaxation, fellowship, and a kitchen that smelled like Noni had been sweating in there all day. Scents of fresh bread and garlic mingling with tomato and basil. My nose is curious and had already informed my taste buds that it's going to be one of "those" nights. Our waitress was very upbeat and charismatic and gave us plenty of time to take in this amazing menu. And after we asked about the best thing on the menu she gave the best answer. She was able to tell us about the whole menu and what her personal favorite was all in a couple of sentences. She made me want one of everything without any effort .bi settled on the pork chops Marsala and my wife the mushroom ravioli with a couple of the iconic meatballs. Everything came out in a timely manner and the presentation was perfect. Pork chops cooked to perfection melted in my mouth while the mushroom ravioli topped with those famous meatballs and famous marinara sauce shot sparks across my palette. Large portions made it mandatory to get take home boxes. Unfortunately I didn't have the stomach capacity to squeeze in a canoli but if one would almost guarantee they are the best around just based on everything else. I left that night with a different idea of what this "Italian restaurant" was. It wasn't a spaghetti place , it was so much more. An experience if you will. I'll return to Figarettis soon. If not to get my hands on more of those pork chops then it will be to try something else. And I'll keep walking the through those friendly doors until everything item on the menu has blessed my palette 1...
Read morePosting here as it seems responses are only provided on public reviews. I nicely provided a review via private message and it was seen days ago with no response. Hi, I wanted to give you some feedback based on dinner I had with you on Tuesday May 27th. I make the drive from Cleveland area a few times a year especially in January when I bring my family to Oglebay and I do a large catering order with you. This time was a quick trip with my Aunt and mother. I wanted my aunt to try the place as she has never been. I raved about your food especially the bread. Well the bread served to us was ice cold, came from kitchen (usually comes from hostess area) and had the butter and seasoning stuck to it like it was leftover from lunch and just sitting for who knows how long.It was awful. Now let's talk about dinner. It came wayyyy to fast, especially when ordered Chicken Marsala. If it does come that fast I would expect it to be hot. The plates for the meatballs and Chicken Marsala were extremely hot however, the inside of the meatballs and Chicken were ICE cold. The Marsala looked nothing like the picture online especially the sauce and noodles. We sent both back to be warmed and when waitress returned the plates again were extremely hot and meatballs and Chicken were cold. Again, seemed like it may have been leftover for lunch. You also had a large catering order that day which wasn't picked up so maybe kitchen was serving food that has been sitting from that. I decided to eat my chicken anyway and I ended up deathly sick for 2 full days still sick but not as bad as the 2 days. I also ended up in the hospital because of it. I obviously do not have proof my sickness came from your restaurant but timing was right. Service was great but the quality of food from bread to dinner was terrible. I hope you have some changes in your kitchen and with your hostess on serving quality bread and food. There needs to be a standard set. Thank...
Read moreVery hit or miss. Any time I've ever gotten anything that involved a fryer it tasted like dirty oil and was dark and inedible or undercooked. It makes me wonder how clean the kitchen is. They also sometimes have a hard time cooking pasta, which is ironic, since half of the time when I order something here it's either semi-crunchy or so overcooked that it's a gummy ball.
Oh, and if you order takeout and you get a dessert you're looking at about a 60/40 chance that you'll actually get what you ordered. If they don't have what you asked for they'll just throw something else in the bag. I've thrown away countless desserts from this place because it was something I didn't want/was allergic to.
I get the impression this place was amazing in 1985 and by 1985 standards and hasn't really changed since then. I hope that the people who think this place is old world perfect get to experience the joy of truly great Italian food someday because this isn't it by a longshot.
The mushroom brie earns the place a star. It may very well be out of a bag from the delivery truck, but it's amazingly tasty. The carrot cake is also really good. When they're done correctly, the stuffed banana peppers are terrific. Sometimes they're perfect and sometimes they're like the ones I got one time where it was essentially one mangled pepper that looked like it had been shredded by a dog and a glop of watery sauce.
The reason for this rambling? I ordered fish tonight and it's sitting here in the box next to me uneaten. It smells like rotten oil and the bit I ate is making my stomach churn and I can already tell I'm probably going to get sick. We didn't get any of the sides we asked for except for a ball of salty rice. One plate of pasta was borderline crunchy. Very...
