Won't be back. I grew up watching Patti on TV and her cookie and pastry shop is top notch in service and quality. Sadly this is not the case with the La Cucina place. It was one of the worst experiences at a restaurant. We went out for pizza during the heat wave but Patti's had no air conditioning in the restaurant as other reviews have pointed out. It was sweltering hot. You could hear blowers running but it was so freaking hot in the restaurant. The pizza is actually pretty good. Fresh dough and the cheese is a higher quality than most pizza joints. I also had the wings which were also good. You order at the front and sit down. Customers get the cheapest thin paper plates where the oil from the cheese just goes right through. No eating utensils given either. When I went to the front to ask for a fork and knife I was given one while my companion was not given any. No paper towels in the restroom and it was even hotter in there. This restaurant needs Restaurant Impossible. Customer service or having customers enjoy a quality restaurant is not in the cards. Then a bunch of teenagers came to visit their friends working at the restaurant. I was once a teen too and it would not bother me if they were trained or at least gave minimum customer service. This place is run completely different than Patti's bakery. Its also ironic for a place to be closed on Sunday for religious reasons to also have gaming machines in the restaurant. That inconsistency sort of explains the entire concept of this restaurant. Good food but no forks, no plates, no air conditioning, no paper towels, the cheapest napkins, and no customer service. If Patti would invest a tiny more in the quality of the atmosphere could majorly improve this place. We...
Read moreTheir Italian Hoagie was pure magic, I can still feel that texture of the bread and juicing meats & cheese in my mouth. The staff were hospitable and super informative about thier menu over the phone while putting in a pick up order. But at their price + tax a 12" shy of $15...
I would like to give a full 5 stars but the prices are outrageous, largely for a location in the Mon-Valley and the tiny size. They charge city restaurant prices and at best this pizza bistro is a novelty. Their pizzas are slightly above average in taste, their calzones are just average. I'm looking forward in tasting their other options. But for the local income of the general surrounding population, located in an awkward intersection with a tiny parking lot. They are overpriced for that area.
Doubley confusing is a block up the street is anothers Patties Pies (bakery). I can predict GPS or Google sending people to the wrong location when typing "White Oak Patties" or some variation.
I think everything this location is; would shine brighter in a Monroeville type metropolis, downtown Pittsburgh and surroundings, or a quiet larger town like Fox Chapel. That, or if they were a larger establishment like another great Italian place in White Oak, Lucianos Brick Oven. I could justify prices and give a full 5 stars. Mind you this Patties pizza location prices are more expensive than Lucianos with about equally same quality and without the welcoming classy restaurant atmosphere. Therefore a 4 star review...
Read moreI hate to do this but I have to edit my old review and knock a couple of stars off. I order there frequently but lately seems like the food has been declining. It's hit and miss. The pepperoni pizza is consistently decent however the first time I had buffalo chicken pizza it was great so I ordered it again like a week later and got the exact opposite. Hardly any sauce and not enough cheese or chicken so I haven't ordered that since. The wings have improved as far as the cook on them and they were now whole wings however the couple times I ordered them they had NO flavor at all and I had to add my own seasonings. I ordered a calzone last night. It was honestly the worst calzone I've ever had. I asked for no ricotta it had ricotta anyways. I asked for banana peppers but instead it had raw green peppers that were some how crunchy even though the red peppers were from a jar so they were mushy which caused so much liquid that the dough was completely soggy from being in a pool of liquid when I cut it. Even the pepperoni was soggy plus the the large chunks of sausage were not good either. It was completely inedible despite my efforts to fix it so I had to throw it away. My son refused to even try it. Disappointed at the lack of consistency and it's unfortunate because now I am less likely to keep...
