Update: I added a star because I appreciate the response from the owner. I will say when I went in it was packed, so I had to weave in and around people to even make it to the register. So signs related to order pick up/prepaid orders could have been obscured and/or I just missed it. The cupcakes were very good. Lots of compliments.
I got cupcakes for my son's birthday party.
Pros: The cupcakes were good and ordering was easy. I called left a message and a woman called me back later that day and took my order and told me the total. They offered to help carry my order out or use a cart, which was very nice.
Cons: First, I had never been to this bakery prior. They have a 4% charge extra if you use debit or credit. This is not disclosed anywhere I could find on their website (so if it is there at all, it's intentionally obscured) and the woman who I spoke with also did not disclose this. In and of itself this is not a problem, IF I KNEW AHEAD OF TIME. I would have brought cash. However I wasn't interested in paying 4% tax on my already $75 order of cupcakes for my son's birthday. But I didn't really have a choice when I was already there and it was the day of my son's party. Also important to note, the only place they display this additional cost (that I could find) is on a small piece of paper right next to register. So people only see it after they have already picked out their order and headed up the register to pay. This is intentional. These types of charges should be obvious from the start.
For comparison: the place I had my son's party had a policy of cash or check only, which was completely fine because they told me this ahead of time, so I was prepared.
Just a suggestion for the future: I would have appreciated a brief description of how it worked once I got there from the woman on the phone. I made a pre-order. Scheduled pick up at 10am. I went in, I saw they had a number to take system, but I thought that was for customers who needed to be served, aka : pick out their orders, not for pick up orders. So I went to the register and waited for the person who was already there to be done and asked for my pick up only to be told I had to take a number and wait. Which again, I had time to wait, so wasn't a huge deal, but it would have been nice if someone would have explained it to me over the phone so I wasn't wasting my time. Then I got hit with the 4% more than the price I was quoted at. It's just the principle of the matter.
I might be a stickler for these types of details because I also work in customer service so I work very hard to make sure that there are no surprises for the customers. Because it's very frustrating when something is new and you feel lost, lied to,...
Read moreEDIT: Taking service stars down a notch. I got the older lady again this morning and rude as can be. Asked her for a lid to my iced water and she proceeded to slam it down on to the dirty counter instead of putting on my water cup. She is making me want to avoid this place on mornings when she is here.
I’m a regular. Good coffee, lovely place to study. Usually enjoy great service too, but today I encountered the rudest baristas who wouldn’t even acknowledge my existence when I was following the instructions of a sign I saw two days ago (to proceed straight to the register for coffee.) I stood for about 5 minutes as the two baristas completed ignored me. When I finally asked the younger one if I was mistaken in coming up,, she explained that sign only applies some days when they have enough help and continued ignoring me. Two minutes later I finally desperately asked her if I could just have a black coffee and be on my way to which she begrudgingly agreed.
The older barista (gray hair and thick glasses) completely ignored my existence the entire time and even started ringing up another customer as I stood right in front of her. The least she could have done was look at me, open her mouth, ask me if I’d taken a number, and explain the conditionality of the coffee...
