HUGE red flag of a company. The issues I've had with SCC are seemingly endless. I purchased thousands of dollars worth of merchandise from them before everything went wrong. I first had an issue with them 2 years ago when I placed a total of 10 orders in less than a week, choosing for my own records, to have them shipped separately. They chose to ship it all together without contacting me first and didn't bother refunding the difference in shipping. On top of that, I chose expedited shipping (UPS Ground) instead of their lower end free USPS shipping. They didn't ship it UPS and also didn't refund me the difference after complaining numerous times and finally filing a BBB report, they finally refunded. They blocked me from all of the social media accounts simply because I was attempting to reach ANYONE and get ANY kind of answer from them. They went so far as to block my IP. In this process, I built up thousands of "points" in their system to obtain free items. This was in no way listed on their site as "revocable" or not having value so these points were PART of my purchase. They did not and have not allowed me access to my account to redeem these points and move on. Now, they have erased my account completely but I wasn't blocked any longer so I decided to go in and create a new account, which it allowed me to do but my points were not there. I assumed they were letting things go so I decided to as well and I looked to place an order. I inputted all of my personal information, including my credit card information, only for it to spin and spin. I attempted to reach out to them, again, via email and social media and got no response. I attemped to ask no one of their live streams and, as usual, they were extremely rude. I finally got a response via email with a simple "we have chosen not to do business with you". No explanation, nothing. I responded back asking if this was over the issue from 2 years ago and have, of course, received no response. So they continue to ignore the fact that they stole my points, which have clear value. They continue to be extremely rude to everyone on their live streams and, even though they could have easily had it where I couldn't create a new account since they obviously have me blocked by some means, they allowed me to input my credit card information and SUBMIT it so now they have my private information, which I don't even remotely trust them having. Going back to my original purchases from 2 years ago, I purchased a Topps box and it didn't have the promised hits so SCC said I needed to contact Topps. I did, which took them over a year to get back to me and I returned the packaging to them and they said it had been tampered with so they could not fulfill any promises. I received this box DIRECTLY from SCC as a "brand new" product which they supposedly receive directly from the manufacturer but it was "tampered" with...by whom? I doubt Topps tampered with it. The package didn't have any issues of tampering at all. That only leaves one culprit, the same one that I wish I looked up reviews for prior to getting involved with because I would have seen that this is an ongoing issue with them and if you attempt to contact them with any issue at all or post any issue, they are just rude about it, gaslight you and lie about what occurred. The only time they are "kind" is when you post glowing...
Read moreI purchased a 8 box case of 2023-24 SPA hockey cards this past march 2024 that were supposed to be released July 2024 but was pushback by upper deck until it was released October 30th. I paid 4k for the case and then on the day it’s gonna be released they changed the price of the product by 800 dollars less. Stating market conditions changed warranting the lesser price, meanwhile the price was this price up until the week it was released on their website. The product didn’t even hit the street yet for the market to warrant a change. I should have been offered protection by this company. That’s the whole point of even buying something early in order to ensure you get the product and to get in on the lowest price available before it hits the market. I tried to speak to someone at steel city collectibles today and spoke with a salesman named Scott who didn’t want to hear my complaint and did hang up on me while I was talking calmly and nicely with him about my issue with what steel city was doing. I will never buy from this company ever again. Steel city did not notify me of this policy when I was placing the Pre Order, and it is not stated anywhere in my email or on the preorder page that the price can go down on the product you are purchasing I do see they have a link at the bottom of the page explaining their policy but that’s not put on their pre order page for presale at all. I just wanted to Be credit the price difference in what I paid originally to what they started sell it on release day or allow me to return the item so I can buy it somewhere for the current market price. If they can’t do that , I would never take that chance again with another hobby case pre order from them. I will give 100% of my business to Dave &Adams going forward. They actually have a policy that they credit any pre orders in which the sale price drops on the product ,I wish I would of known that back then. I plan on making a formal complaint with the Pennsylvania BBB for deceptive sales.
Update I was contacted by Steel city and they have made things right with me. They did explain to me that I had been informed about the pre order policy when I was checking out I think it was something that I may have just clicked thru without fully understanding . I still feel strongly though that when a customer makes pre order that was done to ensure the customer gets the lowest possible price when the product comes out and to ensure they get the product before it may go up in value. Thank...
Read moreI did a live multi-box break for my young nephews on 1/3/22. This was their first one and they are excited about their new hobby of collecting basketball cards. Although Steel City Collectibles was 15+ minutes late to the agreed start time and they flipped through the cards a bit too rapidly, my nephews still enjoyed themselves. Steve Rose was a pleasure to work with in advance of the break, but the low rating is due to what happened after the break. The price of the boxes dropped substantially just days after our break and we weren't given advance notice prior to purchasing the boxes. We also weren't granted even a small amount of store credit (upon our request) to at least partially cover the price difference. I acknowledge that it's this business' prerogative/policy to not make customers whole in these types of scenarios, but as a long time collector I was disappointed. Especially since I'm strong advocate for youth in the hobby and for the community to support local card shops. Honoring a minor request like this as a show of good faith to customers is a common practice in the plethora of card shops I've visited all over the country. It also fosters loyalty and good relationships. The experience might be different for long time customers who spend a lot of money at Steel City Collectibles. This was my experience as a new customer who didn't purchase high price boxes so I recommend asking a lot of pricing questions (potential market drop timing?) if you are in my same situation and are interested in doing a box break with Steel City...
