Taste of China Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Whiteland

Despite the location and not the greatest decor to appeal for dinning in, this is some of the best Chinese food I have had not only in Indianapolis, but in several other states as well. This is the Chinese food I remember having at a young age in California from authentic Chinese cuisine chefs. This is what Chinese food should taste like, rather than the poor quality buffet style that seems to be served in the majority of Chinese restaurants in the area. I have never had poor service here and the family that owns/runs it is very friendly. I drive from the north side of Greenwood and pass a dozen other Chinese restaurants on the way to pick this place's food up for myself and family. Honestly the best I have had in a long time, please note that i am very critical being an executive chef downtown but this place is good. I ordered 2 general Tsoand a sweet and sour chicken. The sauce on the general tso was perfect, not too much and not too little, not to mention how everything was fresh and hot. Here is the wierdest part for me personally. I NEVER eat egg rolls due to the punguent foul taste of overused fish sauce and overcooked old cabbage but thiers was so good that I ate two of them. First time eating here, as it was recommended by a friend. Not a fan. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken combination plate (you can tell a lot about a Chinese restaurant by how well they can pull off quintessential trademark dishes, like sweet and sour chicken). While the chicken itself was okay, I do wish I had some more sweet and sour sauce. My biggest issue came with the fried rice accompanying the dish. There were bits of chicken in it (as you might expect), but the chicken was fatty, slimy, and not palatable or attractive at all. It was like bits of undercooked chicken skin in consistency.
