Ward's Grill still — Restaurant in Whiteville

I have loved this place since I was a little girl! I remember eating cheese off the wax paper that encased my cheeseburger while I was standing on the sear of my dad's manual transmission little blue Chevy LUV truck between daddy and mama way back when (seatbelts were somewhat optional and I was a rambunctious kid who was too busy to sit down or be restrained). Decades later and on a much different diet, I thought it might just be a nostalgic thing. But, last weekend, I drove to Whiteville from my home in Durham where I practice family law these days, to assist my dad who recently had double knee replacement surgery. As a special treat, we grabbed a "Ward burger". I must admit, it is ABSOLUTELY the best cheeseburger I have ever eaten in my life, hands down. Today, I am headed back down for another weekend visit with dad AND another "Wardburger". This time, I am bringing some back to Durham! I wish it were a chain...

Nice people, the person in front of me didn’t have cash they said just to take the food and bring it back later which was really cool. A couple of weeks ago I came across a best burger in NC post and they were mentioned. Decided to stop today and try the burger, and I’ll give my honest opinion on it. The burger was just “okay.” I’d compare it to a burger your mom would make in the kitchen just round and not really compressed, it had a hint of pink as you can tell they basically drop them on the grill and let them cook. The toppings available were mustard, onions, and chili so they lost some points from me by not having slaw, there was also ketchup on the counter. Overall it’s a decent burger for 4.00 however wouldn’t make a top 10 in NC...

10 ⭐️ Some of the nicest people I’ve ever met! I had my faith in humanity restored today by the extremely kind staff of Ward’s. I don’t want to be too specific about what happened but let’s just say they’ll take care of you. As for the food…The burger was something that you’ll keep thinking about long after you’ve finished eating one. I could’ve eaten 5. The hotdog was really good i especially liked the chili on it…But again the kindness of the staff blew me away. I’ll definitely be back for lunch every time I’m in Whiteville and I recommend that if you’re reading this...
