Marcello Sandwich Shop — Restaurant in Whitman

I am being generous in giving Marcello Sandwich Shop a one star rating. As a rule predominately most reviews are about the quality of the food. I am writing a review about the manager and his employee. Many years ago, when my sister lived in Whitman, we ordered food from Marcello' Sandwich Shop almost every weekend. and continued to do so after she moved. We loved their shrimp scampi pizza, but sadly it was recently removed from the menu. Recently I called to order a pizza, and kindly asked if they could make us a shrimp scampi pizza. The young lady returned to the phone with a resounding yes! We were thrilled, letting her know we were very appreciative. Upon asking her the price she responded $16.50. Within minutes the phone rang, and the very same young lady, said it would now cost us $32.50!!!! We reiterated " you're kidding $32.50 for one pizza!!!! She replied , "yes., the manager said that it was a special order, and therefore they were compelled to charge $32.50! I have NEVER heard of a pizza of any kind costing that much!!! I don't care if it came from Italy! Not to mention that they have prepared it for us a dozen times before.. Charging such an exorbitant fee was insane! Shortly thereafter we cancelled the order...DUH! Immediately I called back asking to speak to the manager. Upon answering the phone in a very rude manner, he said, "that price is ridiculous it should have been, $16.50" I then asked if they could, make up a shrimp scampi pizza. "sorry he replied they just threw it out, and we are unable to make another one. How could they have possibly made up a pizza within minutes of ordering it.!!!!! Despite the fact that the young lady quoted a price of 32.50, not only did the manger respond in a rude manner, he hung up on me! How unprofessional to say the least. Deplorable customer service, wife went there to pick up our food while I was on the way home from work. They gave us the wrong order granted it's a 15 20 min drive one way depending on traffic so its a little frustrating. We called back instead of offering us a refund off the bat or at least an option of one, they said we could drive all the way back and pick up the right food being as it was already almost 7 o clock. We called back and asked for a refund they said we could get a 4.00 credit... the young boy on the phone proceeded to argue with me that he repeated the order which he clearly did not, my wife whom has spent 15 years in the industry, is not lying to get 20.00 worth of food I mean lets be realistic its the principle. Then whoever he threw on for a manager was just as useless. Appearantly because valued product left the building they were unable to refund more than 4.00, even though it was a mistake on his part. But appearantly this day in age we just argue with local patrons instead of going above and beyond for customers. These are the people mind you that believe they deserve more $$ an hour. Next time I'm in the mood to deal with clowns ill take my family to the circus at least the foods better and the orders right. Again bravo.. 👏 won't be seeing any of us nor our friends and family in the near future. 💯

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I have to admit, this place used to be disappointing in the past, slow service, inconsistent food, and not much to talk about. But ever since the new ownership took over, it’s like a whole new restaurant! The service is now fast, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. The staff pays attention to every detail, and you can tell they actually care about their customers.

The food quality has gone up tremendously, everything is fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. Portions are generous, and the taste is consistently amazing every time I visit. The menu feels well thought out, and even the presentation of the dishes shows how much pride they take in their work now.

It’s rare to see such a complete turnaround, but they’ve truly elevated this place in every possible way. From the warm atmosphere to the delicious food and excellent service, I can confidently say it’s one of the best spots around now.
